Chipmunk Chatter
For The Week of March 15th through 19th
Administrators' Message
Dear Sandymount Families,
We are incredibly proud of the entire Sandymount staff for preparing our school and classrooms for students. On Monday, March 15th, we are ready to welcome approximately 400 in-person students into our building. Please rest assured that we will do our very best to make sure your chid(ren) feel welcome and safe. We will have additional staff available to meet and greet students, as well as walk students to class if they need help. If your child is new to Sandymount, we will provide a tour so that they feel comfortable navigating through the school building.
During the first week of four day in-person learning, teachers will take time to review classroom expectations and safety guidelines, which is new for many of our students. Virtual students should log into their Google classroom, engage, and participate along with their peers. We ask that families assist us by reviewing healthy habits to prevent the spread of germs. You may also want to share with your child(ren) that they will see more friends in their physical classroom, in the cafeteria, and at recess. We want our students to feel comfortable engaging with one another, however social distancing to the greatest extent possible remains in effect.
If your child takes the school bus to and/or from school, please be sure to arrive at the bus stop fifteen (15) minutes before the expected arrival time. There may be some delays to/from school due to the increased number of students on the bus. If your child is a car rider, please be patient with us as we are dismissing students in smaller groups than we would under normal circumstances. In addition, we respectfully ask that you allow buses to enter the loop by stopping at the designated areas. School buses take precedence over car riders. In order for buses to safely drive through the bus loop, the loop should remain free of parked vehicles at all times.
Lastly, we want to thank our all our families for supporting us though the many transitions we have had this school year. We also want to take this opportunity to thank our amazing PTA for providing lunch and dessert on parent-teacher conference night. It was such a thoughtful and delicious treat!
Have a great weekend!
Request for Change to the Instructional Model
March 8th was the last day in the window to request a change of the instructional model for your child. If your child is currently participating in the two day per week hybrid model, we assume they will now be participating in the four day in-person model. If they are currently participating in the all virtual model, we assume they will continue to do so. Any future changes to your child’s instructional model should be requested in writing to Mrs. Leach (rcleach@carrolk12.org) or a school administrator. It will take up to two weeks to make the changes.
Lastly, a class size chart is available on the CCPS website with the latest data. It can also be accessed on the Sandymount webpage www.carrollk12.org/ses
