Latest Happenings
Boys basketball finished 5th in league this year and lost a tough one at Santiam 49-46 in league playoffs. Girls basketball also finished 5th in league before falling in league playoffs to Western Christian 40-39. Wrestling finished the season sending Junior Christian Jordan and Freshmen Joseph Trammell to the state tournament. Christian finished 6th and Joseph Finished 3rd in their respective weight classes, great job and congratulations!
The competitive cheer team performed at several cheer competitions the month of February and had a lot of fun! For many students, it was their first year doing cheer and competing in an arena with lots of spectators in the stands. The season ended with the team finishing 2nd place at OCCA Championships held at the Salem Pavilion - the second largest competition behind OSSA State Championships. It was a memorable and exciting finish to the season!
We continue to see our biggest gains in the classrooms as dozens of students made huge improvements in their grades and their STAR assessment scores compared to the beginning of the year.
We are starting up field trips! FFA has been to several events, and we had a group of around two dozen students tour Western Oregon University and Chemeketa's McMinnville campus a couple weeks ago.
We are hoping to get the student store up and running after spring break! Students and young entrepreneurs are looking forward to that. For half the students this will be the first time they've seen the store open.
We hired a new head football coach, Scott Dean. He has already been around the building, getting to know students, and is excited to get some lifting and off season workouts going for student-athletes.

Attendance Meetings
With that in mind, you may be receiving a letter or two from the district talking about chronic absenteeism and the importance of getting to school. These letters are meant to start a discussion around how the school can better support your child's attendance. Several families have already started coming in and for many of our parents and guardians it's the first time in two years that they've been able to come in the building. We've really enjoyed communicating out vital information and helping parents clearly see the path to graduation as well as the value of attending school every day. Please contact the school if you have any questions.
Study Hall Is Open!
Mondays 7:15-8:00 AM (weight room) and 1:55-2:40PM(old gym)
Tuesday-Friday 7:15-8:00 AM(weight room) and 3:25-4:10 PM(old gym)
It's open to all SHS students, and there are usually tutors available in addition to staff members ready to help! Student-athletes are also assigned to it if they are failing one or more courses so that they can stay eligible to play. Contact the office for more info. 971-261-6970
Technology
Cell Phones - Cell phones continue to be a hot topic at school. They are rarely if ever needed at school because students can do all the required items for class either on paper in class or on their chromebooks. Please continue to have conversations with your student(s) about cell phone use in the classroom.
Chromebooks - We are in desperate need of chromebooks and chargers. If your student has EXTRA chromebooks and chargers from the last two years of remote learning lying around your home and they belong to the district, please return them as soon as possible, thank you. Student will continue to need a chromebook and charger for regular school work, but some students have borrowed extra chargers and chromebooks over the course of the pandemic and we would love to have them back, thanks!
Thank you
