May 31, 2021
We want to thank all of our Jackson students and families for making the best of a very unusual school year! Things may never be exactly the same again, but I believe we will all come back even stronger for the 2021-2022 school year!
Last Wednesday, our Jackson 5th graders participated in a virtual graduation ceremony and an indoor photo booth. The Jackson PTA congratulated our new grads with a sign in front of the building--another amazing photo op! On the last day of school, we wished this year's 5th graders farewell and best wishes for the future with a clap-out as they walked the halls for the last time. It was bittersweet, but we know they have a bright future ahead!
If you have or know a student that is a graduating senior this year, and they attended 5th grade at Jackson during the 2013-2014 school year, please let them know about the Jackson Senior Reunion on Tuesday, June 1. For more details, see flyer below.
In this edition of the eNews, we have included information about purchasing prepackaged school supplies for next year through PTA, summer curbside meal services, and other summer activities.
We will begin the 2021-2022 school year on Wednesday, August 11, with some new COVID Safety Protocols (see below) and masks/face coverings will be optional. We will continue to update our families throughout the summer with information about our "Meet the Teacher" event and other back-to-school news.
We hope you all have a safe and relaxing summer!

COVID Health & Safety Protocols Update
On Tuesday, May 18, Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order GA-36 prohibiting governmental entities in Texas — including counties, cities, school districts, public health authorities or government officials — from requiring or mandating mask wearing. According to this Executive Order, public schools may continue to follow current mask-wearing guidelines through June 4.
As such, existing COVID Health & Safety Protocols will remain in effect through the end of the 2020-21 school year. Effective June 1, 2021, Plano ISD will implement updated protocols.
Please note the following updates, effective June 1:
- Masks/face coverings will be optional indoors and outdoors
- Social distancing will be maintained when feasible
- Handwashing or use of hand sanitizer will still be expected throughout the day
Individuals should consider their own vaccination status and COVID risk level when deciding whether or not to wear a mask.
COVID vaccines have had a profound effect on lowering our case counts over the past several months. In an effort to ensure that eligible Plano ISD students (ages 12 and up) have access and are given the opportunity to be vaccinated, we are in communication with local hospitals and healthcare providers regarding plans to hold vaccine events. As plans are finalized, additional information will be provided.
