Media Center Weekly

Happenings at the RMS Media Center

For the week of: 9/12/16-9/16/16 International Dot Day Celebration Week

We had a streaming Dot Day event in the butterfly room with Ms. Murtari's and Ms. Hammel's classes. The author, Peter Reynolds, read the book and answered questions from around the world.

Book Circulation

Books were checked out last week to students in grades 1 through 5. There are currently 3,200 book in the collection with 355 books checked out. There are about 50 items long overdue. Note, several of these items are checked out to staff.

New this year are emails sent home for the long overdue items. I have received 2 responses from families, and 3 books returned from this new feature.

Maker Space Developments

I am working on the list for Amazon with Molly. Some items, like programmable robots, need to be researched to make sure they will work within the range of our available technology. Also, in the works is the logisitics of installing a Lego wall near the entrance to the Media Center.

I participated in a Webinar on Maker Space projects for School Libraries sponsored by Demco on 9/15/16.

PD Tech Talk on 9/14/16

Focus was on the development of our Reggio Maker Space, as well as Media Center Services. Teachers were presented with key concepts of the maker movement and how it will be implemented at Reggio Magnet School. Also, discussed were a variety of services I can provide to classrooms. Then, teachers enjoyed an activity in the Media Center using QR codes to find answers to scavenger hunt.

Input was requested through a Google form to help guide future planning.
