Glenn High School
Home of the Grizzlies!
First Day of School is Monday, August 22nd! Get all your information here!
Our first few days of school will be full of team building, kicking off our school culture, touring the campus to learn where everything is, meeting the teachers, and communicating expectations. Since all of our students and staff are new to GHS, we're spending lots of time to get everyone connected. Students will begin their day in the Grizzly Union (Commons area). Parents, if your child says, "I don't have any homework" for the first 4 days, they're right! Also, please leave backpacks at home on the first day as you just won't need it.
School Hours:
School starts with 1st period at 840am and ends at 345pm. Students may arrive beginning at 800am.
School Supplies:
There is not a list for required school supplies for high school students. Instead, each teacher will give out a list after school begins of what supplies are needed for their specific class.
Student Schedules:
Revised schedules will be distributed the first day of school. If needed, students will have the opportunity to request elective changes the first week of school. They will need to come to the Guidance Office to pick up a schedule change form. For more information and guidelines regarding schedule changes, please refer to page 15 of the course catalog.
Bus Schedules:
For information about school bus schedules, the location of bus stops, and other transportation questions, please visit:
http://www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=dis.news2&a=1205
Parent Drop-off:
If you are driving your child to school, please know that our student drop-off location is the front drive on Collaborative Way. As you turn onto Collaborative Way from Bagdad, please take the 2nd driveway to your right for student drop-off and pick-up. The 1st driveway does not go to the student drop-off area, and in fact, will make it difficult for you to get back out on the road. The 3rd driveway is a one way drive the wrong way, and the 4th driveway is for the bus drop-off and pick-up only.
Meals:
For cafeteria pricing, menus, and online payments, please visit http://www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=CNS.menu.
A/B calendars:
Similar to the other LISD high schools, our students will have alternating schedules where they go to 4 classes on the first day (called A days) and their other 4 classes on the second day (called B days) then rotate every other day. Each student will receive a hard copy of the A/B calendar on the first day of school, but they are also available online at ghs.leanderisd.org.
Free/Reduced Lunch information and applications are available here: http://www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=dis.news2&a=1142
Attendance Information:
If your student needs to leave during the school day, please bring a parent note to the attendance office BEFORE school starts to get a pass to leave. Please note that phone calls will not be accepted to assure your student's safety. If you did not send a note, you will need to sign your student out at the front office in person and you must show ID. Also, please allow extra time to pick up your child during the school day as we have a limited staff for getting your child out of class.
The note should include:
Student Name
ID #
Grade
Reason for leaving campus
Parent’s phone #
Parent’s signature
Students must always be signed IN and OUT at the attendance window. Failure to sign back IN will result in absences for the remainder of the day. Failure to get a permit to leave will result in disciplinary action.
For safety reasons, permission to leave campus may not be requested by phone or email.
GHS is a closed campus; therefore, obtaining a permit to leave is mandatory. For more information about attendance, please see https://sites.google.com/a/leanderisd.org/ghs-attendance/.
Weekly newsletters:
Every Thursday we'll send out an e-newsletter just like this one. Please be watching your emails so you have all the news all the time! We'll also post links to them on facebook and twitter if you prefer to view them there. If you are not receiving the e-newsletter, please double check your email address in txconnect (see below).
Dress Code information:
Students may not wear shirts with low necklines (which reveal too much cleavage). No strapless, backless, halter or spaghetti-strap tops. Students’ skirts, skorts and shorts must be at finger-tip or mid-thigh length-measured with relaxed shoulders. In addition, any pants/jeans must be worn at the hip. If seen below the waist, student will be sent to Asst. Principal’s office where student will be provided a zip tie to hold pants/jeans to waist. Hats/headgear shall not be worn anywhere inside campus buildings between the school day 8:40am-3:45pm. Please visit http://www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=ps.handbook for the LISD full dress code policy.
First Day Packets:
In an effort to be as paperless as possible, all of our first day forms are available online. Please visit http://www.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?name=dis.news2&a=1218 to enter your child's information. If you didn’t receive this information, forgot your log in information, or have any questions please contact Kim.Black@leanderisd.org .
What is txConnect? https://itccsgb.esc20.net/PALN/Login.aspx
Parents can use txConnect to Stay Connected to Student's Academic Progress The district’s online tool, txConnect; allows LISD parents to easily monitor their child’s achievement throughout the school year. LISD parents can use txConnect to access their child’s grades and assignments as well as view and print their child’s interim progress reports and report cards. To further support student learning, reduce absenteeism and improve behavior. TxConnect provides parents with their child’s STAAR (or TAKS) results, along with their immunizations, attendance and student discipline reports. Parents can use txConnect to view, update and print first-day packet forms. These features help parents stay connected to their child’s education on an ongoing basis.
Nurse and Clinic Information:
If a student will require the use of any prescription medication that will be used for longer than 10 days, it must be accompanied by a doctor’s order.
The appropriate forms for both over-the-counter/ prescription medications can be obtained from the clinic or from

No medications can be accepted by the clinic without the proper forms. This includes diabetic supplies, inhalers and epi pens. Students carrying inhalers must have the proper documentation in the clinic.
All medications (Tylenol, Advil, Sudafed, etc.) must be checked into the clinic office. Medications cannot be carried by a student on campus.
Remember immunizations need to be up-to-date. Immunization requirements can be found on the district home page or

Volunteer at GHS on Monday, Tuesday, or during the year!
The first day of school is just a few days away, and yes, we could use your help! If you'd be willing to help on Monday or Tuesday mornings or afternoons with traffic flow, hand out breakfast sandwiches, or distribute textbooks, we would love to have you! Please visit http://glenn.my-pta.org/content.asp?PageID=2 to sign up now!
LISD’s volunteer program is the envy of other districts across the state. Last year, more than 13,000 LISD volunteers donated more than 300,000 hours, contributing time and energy and demonstrating the importance of education to a generation of impressionable students. To volunteer at GHS, including athletics, fine arts, or as needs come across on campus, you must have an approved volunteer application on file. Please visit the Leander ISD web site and complete an application. We love our volunteers and we can't wait to meet you!
