WLWV Community Update
Dec. 11, 2018
We Want Your feedback for Future High School Learning Spaces!
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is inviting public input during the consideration process of future high school learning spaces. Please take a moment to fill out the following High School Learning Space Possibilities Survey. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes.
Parents, community members, Long Range Planning Committee members, Board members, and staff attended community forums on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 to contemplate possibilities for addressing projected high school enrollment growth in a future capital bond. Please take a moment to fill out the following survey if you were unable to attend either of those meetings. The survey will summarize the questions presented to the community and provide opportunity for your feedback. Learn about the process so far at the district website.
The Wilsonville Winter Festival is This Saturday — Everyone is Invited!
Music and Arts Partners will once again host its annual Wilsonville Winter Festival on Saturday, Dec. 15, inviting members of the community to enjoy performances from dozens of Wilsonville High School students and performing arts programs.
The Dec. 15 event will take place from 2-5 p.m. in the Wilsonville High School gymnasium. Cost is $25 per family of four, with an additional $10 per family member. Cost is based on a sliding scale, and all families are invited to attend. Tickets can be purchased at the door; both cash and card are accepted. Spaghetti dinner is included with purchase, including salad, breadsticks, cookies, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages.
The Festival will be highlighted by performances from Wilsonville High School choir students, Soul’d Out, orchestra, band, and the drama department among others. Student artwork from across the school district will also be on display for viewing.

WLWV School Board Delays Reading and Approval of Comprehensive Sexuality Education Plan
In response to community questions and the school district’s desire to include parent feedback in the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Plan that is required by the State of Oregon, the district will host an additional Community Education Session on January 22 at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin. Beginning at 6 p.m., parents are invited to hear an overview and review of both the process and the Sexuality Education Plan. There will be time for comments and questions at 7 p.m.
As with the previous four community meetings, questions and recommendations from the Jan. 22 session will be used in drafting the final plan.
The School Board will then review the plan for approval at the February 4 School Board meeting.
Education Foundation Continues Their Honor Our Teachers Campaign
Honor our Teachers — Every year the WLWV Education Foundation holds its Honor Our Teachers campaign, raising money to hire new teachers in the school district. Families can make donations in honor of a West Linn-Wilsonville educator. Nominated teachers will receive an “Honored Educator” certificate to display in their classroom or office.
To donate, or for more information, please visit the Education Foundation website. The deadline is December 17 so get your donations in soon!
Donations of $250 or more will also include a $10 gift card for each teacher or staff member you honor!
*Gift cards are funded by a generous grant, so your total tax-deductible donation will be used to help fund additional teaching positions. Limit 4 gift cards.
Families should consider getting the free FlashAlert Messenger app from the Apple AppStore or Google PlayStore. Announcements will also be displayed on the local TV channels. During an event, we will also post an announcement on the district homepage.
Weather updates will also be posted on the district's Facebook and Twitter pages in the event of a school closure or delay.
Safety Spotlight — Threat Assessment Process
In particular, note the Threat Assessment Flow Chart, which outlines procedure and protocol in the event of a Threat Assessment. To learn more about safety and security in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, please view the Safety/Security Channel on the district website.

Wood Middle School Students Need the Community's Help!
We recently learned that our IWMS 2019 Winter Light Festival submission has been accepted, meaning our art students will have their own installation at the upcoming Festival! Students are currently in the planning and creation stages of their elaborate exhibit, which will include 160 student-made clay lanterns. Lanterns will include many personal student touches, and there will even be an audio component.
But to make this project a reality we need some help from our community. We are looking for parent volunteers to help us:
- Build the exhibit structure
- Audio, electrical, and wiring engineering for the ambitious project
- Building Materials
- A location to build our Art Installation
If you or a community member you know can help make our students’ dreams a reality, please contact Art Teacher Troy Mathews. We will also accept donations for supplies. Thank you!
