News You Can Use!
My beliefs about Homework
*Homework should be regular and meaningful.
*It should reinforce and support class lessons.
*It should provide information to you regarding your child’s academic progress.
*It should be checked by both you and your child for accuracy and understanding.
*Homework should not consume your evening. The average amount of time spent on homework should not be more than 15-20 minutes. If you find that you are spending too much time on homework, please
let me know.
November Reading Challenge
"The whole world opened to me when I learned to read." Mary McLeod Bethune
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Keep those food items coming!
Bring in non-perishable food items in support of your favorite team.
We’ll be collecting food items until November 23.
All food will be donated to a local charity for Thanksgiving.Reading
Our comprehension strategy this month is visualization. That simply means that good readers try to create a mental picture in their minds- a movie- while they are reading. This helps students understand and remember what they read. (RL1.2, 1.3, 1.4)
“A person’s vocabulary level is the best single predictor of occupational success.” Johnson O’Connor
Language Skills
Math
Our focus will be adding & subtracting numbers using the fast tens strategy and the doubles strategy. For example, if you know that 6+4=10 then you should know that 10-6=4.

and reflective. His love of history has sparked an
interest in other students. He believes in treating
others fairly. We are super proud of Eli!
School Excuses
Each student is allowed 6 parent excuses per year (this is a change from years past). Parent excuses can be a hand written note or you may email the excuse to your child’s teacher and copy the excuse to: PPattendance@trussvillecityschools.com.
An ORIGINAL doctor’s excuse may be turned in from the parent by the student. Doctor’s excuses may be faxed to 205-228-3201 ONLY by the doctor’s office. We can NOT accept a faxed/emailed or copied doctor’s excuse from a parent.
All excuses MUST be turned in within 3 days of the absence.
