MPS Newsletter Virtual Learning
Vol. 2 Newsletter 1- September 11, 2020
What an awesome 2 weeks!
What an amazing first 2 weeks of virtual learning. We continue to be so thankful for the partnerships with parents, grandparents, daycare providers, and other family members who are helping our students along the way.
We have experienced a few hiccups, but please know our staff is dedicated to working through any problems that may arise. If you are experiencing a problem, always check with your child's classroom teacher first. If they are not available, please call our front office and we will work to assist you.
We appreciate your patience when we do experience a technical difficulty. We are always working as fast as we can to get our teachers and students connected. It has been so amazing to see our students interacting online. Seeing their smiling faces brings all of us so much joy!
We continue to love to see your pictures of our students learning. You can share them on Twitter and tag @PrincipalMPS and include the hashtag #knightpride.
Weekend Backpack Food Program
We will be continuing our Weekend Food Program for any families who are in need. The food may be picked up between 1-3:30pm on Fridays starting September 25th at MPS. If you are interested in this program, please contact Mrs. Police our School Counselor at 240-566-0229 or e-mail Janice.Police@fcps.org for more information.
Our students are doing great at attending their specials block, which includes PE, art, music, and media! Specials are found on Schoology, just like your classroom teachers! Let's keep up the great attendance and participation!
The specials classes can be found under “courses” on Schoology.
Each class will have one 20-30 minute synchronous session a week and one asynchronous activity per special provided by your specials teachers.
The Synchronous sessions can be accessed by a Google Meet link provided on each specials teacher’s Schoology page.
The asynchronous material will be under the “Materials” tab.
The asynchronous material can be completed following the live session, in an asynchronous block, OR any available time throughout the week.
Specials will be graded.
All specials teachers will be offering office hours throughout the week. Specials teachers office hours can be found on their Schoology page as well.
Google meet recording permission
Have you completed the parental permission form for recording Google Meet?
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your student in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2020. Parents need to let schools know whether or not their student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets. Questions can be directed to Courtney.Borne@fcps.org.
Here is the Google Form that needs to be filled out and submitted online. If you have more than one child at MPS, please complete a form for EACH CHILD. https://forms.gle/3hYH2TyapJCrjqX7A
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible. Please see details below:
Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or parts of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
The Frederick County Public Schools Parent Guide to Google Meet Recordings, Student Privacy and Security sent via a system-wide Find Out First (FOF) message this morning provides an overview of how the Google Meet recordings will be used and the methods used to ensure student privacy and security (LINK). Please review this Parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and the security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
