EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
This week's Educator of the Week is Ms. Carolyne Ventricelli. Ms. Ventricelli is a Special Education Teacher at the SRS and has been with the District since 2017. She is a dynamic teacher in the classroom and consistently utilizes a variety of strategies and techniques to best meet the needs of her students.
Principal Baird praised the work being done by Ms. Ventricelli when she noted, "Carolyne Ventricelli is a caring special educator at South River School. She goes above and beyond to help all her students learn. Ms. V is a dedicated professional who is always willing to help her colleagues problem solve and enjoys learning new ways to help her students. She excels at building relationships with students as well as their families. She is insightful, thoughtful, and kind!"
We are fortunate to have Ms. Ventricelli on our team and we congratulate her on being our Educator of the Week. #WeRMarshfield
NEW EWS PRINCIPAL NAMED
I am excited to inform you that Ms. Kaitlin Bishop has been named Principal of the Eames Way School. Ms. Bishop will replace Principal William Campia who retired in February. Ms. Bishop is a talented educator with exceptional leadership skills. She cares greatly for all of her students and is passionate about creating a healthy and safe school environment for her students and staff.
Ms. Bishop has a strong instructional and administrative background and has worked the last four years in the Silver Lake Regional School District. Prior to her tenure in Silver Lake, she spent time as an administrator at a Charter School in Fall River and was a teacher in Marblehead as well as in a parochial school in Holbrook.
Most recently, Ms. Bishop has spent the last four years as Vice Principal at the Kingston Intermediate School, where she oversees 600 students and over forty staff members in a grade 3-6 environment. In that role, she has been able to hone her administrative skills by supervising the development and implementation of school policies, operational systems, procedures and routines. During this time, she was also responsible for supporting the district’s four sub-separate programs that are housed in her building.
Before becoming the Vice Principal in Kingston, she spent three years working as the Vice Principal at the Argosy Collegiate Charter School in Fall River. Prior to working in Fall River, Ms. Bishop taught History and Mathematics at the St. Joseph School in Holbrook (grades 5-8). She also had experience teaching French at the Marblehead Community Charter School (grades 4-8).
Ms. Bishop has a BA in History & French from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. During her time at UMASS, she spent a semester at the Institut Catholique in Paris, France. While in France, she taught English to 4th and 10th grade students. She also earned a Masters of Education Administration from Boston College. While at Boston College, she worked as a Pre-Practicum Supervisor for undergraduates at BC who were engaged in their student teaching practicum.
I would like to thank the Principal Search Committee, chaired by Principal Karen Hubbard, for their hard work and attention to detail throughout this process. The committee screened a number of talented candidates from across the Commonwealth and they were overwhelming in their support of bringing forward Ms. Bishop as a finalist. The members of the Search Committee were: School Committee member Kendra Stetson, FBMS Assistant Principal Scott Madden, EWS/District Educator & Staff members, Lisa Zayac, Michelle Simmons, Bill Flanagan and Janna Murphy. They were joined by EWS parents, Nicole Silva and Katherine Busey, along with the District’s Director of Special Education/Pupil Personnel, Amy Scolaro.
I also want to thank the parent/guardians, EWS staff and district leadership representatives who took the time to come to the focus group interviews that were held for each of our finalists. Their input was invaluable to the process.
Ms. Bishop is excited to join our team and is scheduled to begin her new position at the beginning of July.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey W. Granatino

MPSD INCREASES SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE
Starting this week, the district will be growing our Facebook, Twitter & Instagram presence. There are so many wonderful things to share about our students and staff and we want to make sure we are getting that information out appropriately to our stakeholders.
This has been brought up over the years and we have heard from students, staff and our families that moving our social media footprint beyond just Twitter would better highlight the successes that occur across the district every day.
Below you will find information on what this entails along with links to our new social media pages. We hope you will follow us and spread the word. Please note that Twitter accounts that are currently being used by teachers and administrators may still remain, but the link below will be the official Twitter page for the district.

MEF FUNDS 23 GRANTS TOTALING $149,500
The Marshfield Education Foundation (MEF) has stepped up once again to help support creativity and innovation in the classroom. On Tuesday, May 2nd, educators from across the District came together to celebrate 23 grants, totaling $149,500 from the MEF. This is the largest sum of grant money ever funded in a single grant cycle. Since its inception, the MEF has awarded more than $1.1 million in grants to the Marshfield Public School educators.
When reviewing this year's grants, it is nice to see that all five elementary schools, the middle school, and high school will benefit from the 2023 grant cycle. From a release put out by the MEF, here's a sampling of grants being awarded by the Marshfield Education Foundation for the 2023-2024 school year include:
• Anatomage Table – With this innovative, fully interactive dissection tool, Marshfield High School (MHS) students are able to digitally manipulate real life 3D cadavers under varying states of wellness or disease to develop a deeper understanding of how variations in biological structures affect function of the whole organism. MEF is extremely excited to help fund this initiative. We will be only one of about 40 schools in Massachusetts with a table like this.
• Building Online Diverse Libraries – As students get involved in more book clubs and read
independently, it is important for students to not only see themselves in literature, but have
access to quality diverse books and through online, diverse libraries, so students have more
access to literature and can form a greater love for reading. This grant will go to Furnace Brook Middle School.
• 3D Printing Our Way to Proficiency – 3D printers at Daniel Webster School (DWS) and Eames
Way School (EWS) will enhance the science, technology and engineering curriculum standards for grades 3-5 through hands-on project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences. Students will learn how to design and build with a 3D printer with the goal of more students achieving a higher score on the Grade 5 STE MCAS assessment.
• OT Winslow’s Way -- This grant will support students at Governor Winslow School (GWS) in the general and special education setting by providing various Occupational Therapy supports and tools that can be utilized and implemented by educators; which will help to reduce the number of students referred to RTI which as a result will strengthen students physical, cognitive, psychosocial and sensory needs and increase overall performance in school.
• Numbers Make Sense with Rekenrek Tools – This is a district-wide grant to the five elementary schools to support students in grades K-2. The goal is to strengthen students’ number sense and fact fluency skills with Rekenrek tools (number racks).
• Musical Martinson – Through the use of a variety of instruments, Martinson Elementary is
looking to build an outdoor musical station in order to create an inclusive environment for
students to explore sound, build, SEL skills and create music.
All other grants for the 2023-2024 academic year include:
• Easels, MHS
• Microscope Mania, FBMS
• Supporting English Language Learners, DWS
• JR. Lego Masters, Martinson Elementary School (MES)
• hELLo Pebble Go! (Technology for English language learners) MES

As we have noted here in the past, the MEF is an amazing organization that does so much for teaching and learning in Marshfield. Since its inception, the MEF has awarded over $1.1 million in support of 203 grants across the Marshfield Public School district. This wouldn’t be possible without the great support of the Marshfield community and sponsors who have continuously supported their largest fundraisers, the Marshfield St. Patrick’s Day 5k, Circus Smirkus, and their Fall Giving Campaign.

NEW LEADERSHIP ON THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Her seat on the School Committee will be filled by Ms. Lauren Dargan. Ms. Dargan was elected to fill the seat at this weekend's town election. Ms. Dargan has already worked to help our school district by previously serving on District Strategic Planning Committees and stepping up to volunteer on Principal hiring committees. We look forward to the leadership and vision that Ms. Dargan will bring to the School Committee.
We want to thank Ms. Boyd for all she has done for the MPSD. We are a better district because of her hard work and dedication to the students, staff and families of Marshfield.

TRANSPORTATION UPDATE
We want to thank the many Parents/Guardians who have already registered for bus transportation for the 2023-24 school year. As has been explained in previous meetings, having an accurate and consolidated list of students who wish to ride the bus next year will allow us to maximize bus capacity and create more efficient bus routes. This in turn will potentially allow the District to move Marshfield High School to a later start time and our elementary schools onto one tier of transportation, eliminating the changing of start times every two years. We have heard from many stakeholders for some time regarding these two issues and we appreciate your understanding as we attempt to resolve them.
The previous email sent regarding the bus fee implementation detailed an additional $50 fee per student or an additional $100 for two or more students for those not registered by May 15th. After further discussion and reflecting on the goals of this process, we are no longer implementing the additional $50 fee per student. The cost of bus transportation for the 2023-34 school year will remain $180 per student or $360 for two or more students.
In addition, there has been some concern over the length of time given to register for next school year, so the deadline for registration is being extended to Tuesday, June 13th. The fee will not increase after June 13th, but anyone registered after the deadline will not be guaranteed a seat on the bus for next year and will be put on a waitlist, which may not be rectified until much later in the summer.
It is important to note that the sooner we have transportation numbers, the sooner we will be able to determine bus routes and consequently make any decisions regarding revisions to the start times at the elementary and secondary levels. This extension may delay this process as we move forward with these important decisions. We appreciate your understanding.
Please note that registration is expected to be completed for ALL STUDENTS, riding a bus or not. If you would like to confirm your registration, please log into your Aspen Family Account and view under “Bus Transportation Confirmed”. If the data indicates “2024”, “Waiver”, “No Transp.” or “No BusZone”, registration is complete as noted. Please be aware there may be a delay in processing confirmation.
Thank you and have a good day.

SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY
MAMMA MIA
So Sophie takes matters into her own hands and does some research. Finally, she finds three possible fathers- Sam (Bennet Regan), Harry( Joe Mamet) , and Bill (Alex Robinson). Thinking that she’ll be able to tell who her father is the moment she sees him, she invites all three to her wedding. But when they arrive, she discovers that it will be much harder than she thought!
We hope you can come and see this fantastic show being put on by the MHS Theatrical Society. The shows can be seen on the weekends of May 5th and May 12th at the MHS Auditorium.
2023 ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
On April 24th & April 25th, Marshfield held its Annual Town Meeting. Over the course of the two nights, those present at the ATM voted to support the MPSD FY24 Annual Budget of $55,778,939, which represents a 3% increase over the FY23 Budget. The ATM also voted in favor of our $290,000 capital budget request, which will go towards replacing the hardwood floors at the DWS gymnasium as well as replacing all of the wall padding. In addition, ATM supported a Select Board article that provided $300,000 for repairs at the Preschool Building on Furnace Street. We cannot thank the ATM enough for their continued support of our schools.
ATM also voted overwhelmingly to support the District's request to become a member of the South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High School (SSRVTHS). With passage at the Marshfield ATM, the District still needs to receive the support of six of the eight current members of the SSRVTHS. Currently, two of the eight member districts have had their ATMs and they both voted in favor of Marshfield joining. We should find out in the next few weeks if the other communities vote in favor of us joining.
If the votes are in favor of Marshfield, we would be eligible to join as of the 2024-25 school year. Thank you for everyone's support of this important initiative.
***Update***
As of Monday, May 1st, 5 additional SSRVTHS communities voted in favor of Marshfield joining. This brings our total to 7 communities and puts us in position now to be a member of the SSRVTHS for the 24-25 school year.
