Term 4 - Week 8, 8th December 2022
Kia ora e te whānau
On Monday this week we had our whole school class transition visits. This gives our tamariki the opportunity to visit the class and the teacher that they will be with next year. It was lovely to visit the classrooms during these transition visits and to see everyone so happy and settled about the classes for 2023.
Thank you to all of those parents who completed the Parent Request forms as this helped with our placement of students. I am very pleased to let you know that we will have two bilingual classes next year which are both full and we have needed to start a waiting list for students who want to be in these classes.
It was unfortunate that our building work is not completed yet so the students who will be in A2, A3 and A4 next year did not have the chance to see the classroom but they did get to meet their new teacher.
In 2023 we will have a couple of staff changes.
Rachel Palmer who has been away this year on maternity leave will return to our new entrant room, with Monique Palmer. Whaea Rachel and Mrs Palmer are going to be job sharing, in C8 next year.
Crystal Gunn will also return to Whakapoungakau Team and A1. Whaea Crystal had the first 6 months of the year away on maternity leave. We will be pleased to have her return to her class full time next year.
We farewell two teachers who have both been covering maternity leave this year.
Elaine Marshall has been working with our Year 0 and Year 1 tamariki in C8 all year. Whaea Elaine has done a tremendous job settling students into school life and giving them great learning opportunities during their first few months of school. Whaea Elaine is moving to Scotland at the end of the year. We wish her well with this new adventure and look forward to hearing how she is getting on.
Leandi Labuschagne has been working in A1 all year. She was full time for the first 6 months and is currently job sharing with Whaea Crystal. Whaea Leandi has been a great asset to our school. We will definitely miss her expertise when planning for some of our students who need a little bit of extra support. We thank her for the work she has done in A1 and as a member of Whakapoungakau Team. We wish Leandi well for the future.

Thank you to everyone who supported the ‘Fill the Bus’ appeal last Friday. We were overwhelmed with the number of cans of food that our students donated and so were the organisers of the appeal. Congratulations to B3 who were the class that donated the highest number of cans and won the pizza lunch.
