This week, students began their third round of book clubs. I am very pleased with their progress as speakers, listeners, and readers! Very soon, we'll start discussions around literary elements such as characterization, plot, point of view, etc. On another note, the October book review of the month was written by Tiana H. Check it out on our class website. Here's the link: http://www.lexrich5.org/webpages/tjefferson/reviews.cfm Congratulations Tiana!

Literacy Pals

Has your child told you about their very first meeting with their literacy pal? Well, if not, I am proud to announce that we have first grade Literacy Pals! Literacy Pals is a mentorship program where older and younger children establish relationships as readers, writers, and individuals. At least twice a month, your fifth grader will support his/her literacy pal by preparing a literacy engagement or read aloud to help their literacy pal grow as a reader and/ or writer. Through this mentorship, both students will develop a sense of empowerment and agency. More importantly, they are living into their roles as activists for literacy in their own ways! Over the weekend, ask your child to tell you about their literacy pal experience. They'll meet again on tomorrow!

United Way

Did you know the United Way was one of the first organizations in the Midlands to help families that were flooded? To help, we will have a pajama day for students on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. This week, any student that donates at least $1 can wear PJs on Nov. 24th.

Classmate Interviews

Meet Abryona by Kenneth

Guess whose extreme fear I know!

My friend Abryona. Her fear is sky diving. I asked her what her one wish would be, and she said “to have a nice family when she grows up”. What we don’t have common is that she has two dogs. What we do have in common is we both like dancing and laughing. She said that in 20 years she will be designing clothes. Her favorite song is your lips are moving. Her favorite subject is science because she likes pouring chemicals into chemicals.

Meet Zakai by Carter

Interviewing Zakai was pretty good and he was very funny.Ok now lets get to the stuff we have in common. We both love video games and football. His fear is getting kidnapped by a stranger. And we both love the show Teen Titans Go because it was very funny. He likes the gamecocks and I like the gamecocks. Well thats my man, Zakai. :)
