Fourth Grade Heroes

Our fourth grade students invited their HERO in for a day of recognition and celebration.

Alvin and the Chipmunks-Road Trip

On Wednesday, December 23rd the entire school will be boarding buses to attend our annual movie trip to see Alvin and the Chipmunks-Road Trip. This trip is in lieu of classroom parties and celebrations. Students and staff will be enjoying Alvin and the Chipmunks-Road Trip at the Neshaminy United Artists Theater. The cost per student is $7.00. Students will leave school at approximately 9:30 a.m. and return by noon. Due to the amount of staff attending-no chaperones will be needed. Please look for the permission slip that will be sent home shortly. Cash or checks should be made out to the Ferderbar HSA who graciously helped organize the trip. We look forward to enjoyable day to celebrate the holiday season.

Holiday Shoppe

The HSA will be sponsoring their annual Holiday Shoppe from Tuesday, December 8th through Thursday December 10th. Students are able to purchase items for the entire family.

Clearance Sign-up

As you know all parents/guardians who wish to volunteer in the school are required to have clearances. Your ability to volunteer helps teachers in many valuable ways including supporting students in the classroom and chaperoning trips throughout the year.

We will be offering a time on Thursday, December 10th when all parents/volunteers can apply for clearances in our computer lab. Coffee and donuts will be provided. This is our way to help you help our students.

Please come by our lab from 9:30-11:30 for sign-ups if interested. Do not forget to sign-in at the office and receive a visitor badge before heading to the computer lab.

Holiday Giving Tree

We are looking for donations of new hats, gloves and scarfs for our Holiday Giving Tree.

Also-please consider making a donation to the Ferderbar Elf Fund in lieu of a teacher gift. Your donations will benefit needy families in our community.

Grade 2 Science-How and Why Do Rockets Fly?

Nicholas Zlupko, son of Grade 2 teacher Lorraine Zlupco shared his knowledge of rockets as a science teacher at Villa Joseph Marie. Nicholas instructed the grade 2 classrooms with a bottle rocket experiment. Part of the instruction includeda discussion with the students about what rockets are used for and what causes them to fly.

Prior to Nicholas coming in, the grade 2 teachers prepped their classes with some information that would help them answer questions about rocket launches. Then groups of students created bottle rockets which they decorated with a wing and nose. The groups of students from all the classes went outside to watch the blastoff. Included was a rocket launch countdown for each group.

After the launch the classes discussed why some rockets flew higher then others and what do they think caused the one rocket not to fly.

Thank you to Mr. Zlupco and our teachers in sparking the interest in our future astronauts.

IMPORTANT...Change in Dismissal Procedures

As many of you are aware there have many problems with our dismissal over the past few months. Parents have been arriving to school to pick up their children and parking 2 or 3 deep, preventing our buses from entering and parking safely. Students are unsafely running across the parking lot to waiting vehicles.

After winter break we will be instituting new DISMISSAL PROCEDURES in an attempt to keep our students safe. Only car riders and walkers/parent pick-ups will dismiss from the front of the building. Our buses will be loading in the back of the building.

Stayed tuned for more information about changes in our ARRIVAL PROCEDURES as well. Again-these changes will begin AFTER WINTER BREAK STARTING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 4TH.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support in keeping the students at Ferderbar safe.
