Clearance Sign-up
As you know all parents/guardians who wish to volunteer in the school are required to have clearances. Your ability to volunteer helps teachers in many valuable ways including supporting students in the classroom and chaperoning trips throughout the year.
We will be offering a time on Thursday, December 10th when all parents/volunteers can apply for clearances in our computer lab. Coffee and donuts will be provided. This is our way to help you help our students.
Please come by our lab from 9:30-11:30 for sign-ups if interested. Do not forget to sign-in at the office and receive a visitor badge before heading to the computer lab.
Holiday Giving Tree
We are looking for donations of new hats, gloves and scarfs for our Holiday Giving Tree.
Also-please consider making a donation to the Ferderbar Elf Fund in lieu of a teacher gift. Your donations will benefit needy families in our community.
Grade 2 Science-How and Why Do Rockets Fly?
Nicholas Zlupko, son of Grade 2 teacher Lorraine Zlupco shared his knowledge of rockets as a science teacher at Villa Joseph Marie. Nicholas instructed the grade 2 classrooms with a bottle rocket experiment. Part of the instruction includeda discussion with the students about what rockets are used for and what causes them to fly.
Prior to Nicholas coming in, the grade 2 teachers prepped their classes with some information that would help them answer questions about rocket launches. Then groups of students created bottle rockets which they decorated with a wing and nose. The groups of students from all the classes went outside to watch the blastoff. Included was a rocket launch countdown for each group.
After the launch the classes discussed why some rockets flew higher then others and what do they think caused the one rocket not to fly.
Thank you to Mr. Zlupco and our teachers in sparking the interest in our future astronauts.
IMPORTANT...Change in Dismissal Procedures
As many of you are aware there have many problems with our dismissal over the past few months. Parents have been arriving to school to pick up their children and parking 2 or 3 deep, preventing our buses from entering and parking safely. Students are unsafely running across the parking lot to waiting vehicles.
After winter break we will be instituting new DISMISSAL PROCEDURES in an attempt to keep our students safe. Only car riders and walkers/parent pick-ups will dismiss from the front of the building. Our buses will be loading in the back of the building.
Stayed tuned for more information about changes in our ARRIVAL PROCEDURES as well. Again-these changes will begin AFTER WINTER BREAK STARTING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 4TH.
Thank you in advance for your patience and support in keeping the students at Ferderbar safe.
