Pride Day 2016

Several years ago, an Algonquin tradition began when we dedicated a portion of a school day to sprucing up our grounds. Eventually, we moved Eagle Pride Day to a Saturday in late April and the event has continued to grow. Our first several years focused on the outside of the building, but we have been able to do some things inside the building the last couple of years, as well.

This past Saturday was our best Eagle Pride day ever! A large number of students and several parents joined Algonquin staff members in making Eagle Pride Day extremely successful and very enjoyable.

In addition to pulling weeds and spreading mulch, we renovated a portion of our Media Center into a new Learning Commons, and assembled pedal desks for our fitness room. The results are stunning and the redesigned learning spaces are sure to appeal to students.

AMS Staff Makes It Happen

Months of conversation and planning came together over the past week thanks, in large part, to the efforts of Mr. Akans, who has led the efforts in the Media Center. Several staff members, and even a guest teacher, donated time and energy to paint, assemble and rearrange.

In another part of the building, we have removed several pieces of unused weight equipment and are in the process of creating a fitness area in which students will also be able to read and complete assignments. The first phase has been the addition of several pedal desks. Our goal is to have enough equipment that an entire class will be able to visit the fitness room to read, study, or even participate in a lesson.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to Hard Rock Stone Works (Sterling Heights)!

Hard Rock donated and installed quartz counter tops that give our new Learning Commons a classy look and feel. They also generously donated time and energy to assemble furniture. We could not have achieved such stunning (and functional results) without their help.

Thank You!
