The PTA Needs Your Help!
As part of the application process for the School of Excellence award, the National PTA requests feedback from families, teachers, and administrators at two points in the school year- the beginning and the end. Once collected, we will use this feedback to improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Please take 5-10 min to reflect on your experience at the school and complete the online survey by October 3rd. If you would like alternative ways to give feedback or more information, you can find it on our School of Excellence page.
Thank you for your participation!

Letter from Ms. Smith
Hello Parents and Families!
As I always do, I am reflecting over the week. This week I have seen many adults in the building step up and make Hembree just a little better. If you noticed the new look of this newsletter, it’s because a parent showed me some cool tricks with technology to update the newsletter. If you noticed your child talking about PTA Reflections this year, it is because our PTA has created spaces here at school to allow students to showcase their talents. I could share many stories just like this, but the overarching theme is that the adults in the community enhance the work happening in the school. Every adult (teachers, parents, aunts, uncles, guardians, etc.) in our Hembree community is working to support students, and it shows in many more ways than academic outcomes.
I have a great deal of information to share, so buckle up!
Social Media:
Social media has become a big part of our world. Whether you are on a social media platform or not, you know someone who is. We are working to utilize Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as ways to keep you informed. We will be using social media to let you know what events we have in the future, but we also want to highlight what is currently happening in classrooms and around the school. As a parent, I sometimes want a peek into the classroom or fun events at the school to get an idea of what my child’s day is like. This will allow us an opportunity to do so. I will also say that we will not post any photos of student faces without permission from that parent for that specific photo. Safety is always a priority especially on social media where this information is accessible to the world. I would encourage you to follow us on one or more platforms. We have made a commitment to post frequent, relevant topics that apply to our families and community. Please check us out using the links at the top of this newsletter.
Volunteers:
PTA handles all volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Amanda Gardner and team at volunteer@hembreespringspta.org. PTA will work to get you connected in a way that fits your schedule and skillset.
Dr. Looney Visit:
Today Dr. Looney popped in for a quick unexpected visit. I wanted to share this with you because he had many great things to say about Hembree Springs. He shared that he was impressed with the how clean the building is, the level of engagement, and how smooth things are going in the classrooms. I walked through the building like a proud parent showcasing our school in this wonderful visit.
Culture Corner:
Our School Governance Council (SGC) is starting a Culture Corner to spotlight the diversity we have at Hembree. The Culture Corner will be a monthly publication that will be shared in a digital format that our 5th graders will help create. We will highlight one family a month and share things about their culture. If you would like to be a family that is showcased or would like more information, please email Ashley Russ at ashleyruss88@gmail.com.
Hispanic Heritage Month:
We are in the middle of Hispanic Heritage month. I have been diving into the many Latino faces that have changed history, impacted Hollywood, and led the way for youth to do great things. Check the video below showcasing 5 Hispanic influencers using their talents to impact the youth by doing something great for others.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith
