Principal's message - week 30
Greetings North Plains Hawks!
This newsletter is going out a bit early as I am headed south to see my parents this weekend and won't be back in until Monday!
REPEAT: The spring book fair is coming up April 10 and will be open at various times during the week (see below). We definitely will need volunteers to help! Please contact Ryan Kind (503-333-1974 or visit the volunteer website at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B4cAcA92AA64-spring1
If you are the parent of a 6th grader, please pay attention! Students entering 7th grade need two additional vaccinations; Td booster or Tdap, and the 2nd Hepatitis A. Please be sure to check with your pediatrician to get these scheduled before next fall!
The science fair is coming up in just over a month and we are hoping for a lot of participants! Participating in the fair is voluntary, but it is really a great experience for students. There will be three after school workshops to help students prepare their projects. Workshops will be on Mondays, April 17, 24, and May 1 from 2:15 - 3:30. There is not an activity bus available on Mondays so you will need to provide transportation for your child if they choose to participate. A link to the packet for the science fair is at the bottom of this page. Please print out the packet for all the information as we will have limited packets available here at school. Please watch for a link to come out to volunteer at our science fair this year.
The district is hosting a science fair at Liberty High School on May 4. , Each elementary school has only 10 slots available and this is before our school fair, so we will have a first come, first serve sign up in the office for students wanting to participate in the district fair. If you want this opportunity, it will be completely independent and not coordinated by someone here at the school. students display their projects and people go around to look at them, but there is no judging or feedback for participants. I don't have a time yet, but will get that out to you soon.
The 3rd annual Proud to be HSD Festival will be held Saturday, May 13 in downtown Hillsboro from 8:00 - 1:30 PM. The band and choir are scheduled to play, (I don't have a time yet), and hopefully we will have some art submitted for the art walk as well. It should be a fun day and I hope to see many of you there!
Unfortunately I have no new pictures as there aren't kids this week, but continue to enjoy the ones from last week:) I hope everyone is having a fabulous break and I look forward to seeing all the kids next Monday!

Classroom volunteers needed: Are you interested in working with the young ones in the classroom? We are really in need of some parent volunteers to come be an extra support in the kinder and 1st grade classrooms. This does NOT mean you need to have a child in this class, in fact it is often better if you don't! But if you have some time and enjoy working with the little ones, please let me know and we will plug you in to help!
After school help needed: You may not know that all schools are given funds to support STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities after school. We've had a variety of activities in the past and are working on this year's line up. We are in need of people to supervise and lead activities after school. Some ideas include a 4-6 grade math club, dance team (intro level of course), drama, choir, science activities, language classes, pretty much anything you can think of we could tie into STE(A)M. Please let me know if there is something you might be interested in.
Box Tops: Remember that we are still collecting box tops! There is a bin inside the main entrance, so feel free to drop them by any time! Thank you to Laura Moradi for taking the lead on box tops again this year!
