Newsletter - February 8, 2019
From the desk of Dr. Michael Yocum
The Ralph C. Wilson Foundation is conducting a project to determine what after school programs would be most beneficial to teens in our county. It is important we support this effort in order to provide needed resources for the development and well-being of our young people. If you can send this message to your secondary principals that would be helpful. We will also send it through our list serve.
The Foundation is looking to engage districts to help facilitate brainstorming with teens in their schools. The brainstorming process only takes 3-5 minutes but is crucial to the process. Brainstorming in Oakland County will be closing at the end of February. The target number of teen participants in Oakland County is 2,000. As of this morning 133 teens have participated. The results of this project will be made available to all districts, and district level data can be provided for districts with substantial teen participation (i.e., more than 200 teens). I encourage you to follow up with Kathleen Jerome at kjerome@conceptsystems.com to learn more about how your district can participate.
Oakland County's Effective Practice Conference - OCEP
INSPIRE TEACHERS, EMPOWER STUDENTS
To honor effective practices, please consider sharing your learning and insights by presenting a session at the Oakland County Fourth Annual Effective Practices Conference. June 18-19, 2019, Lamphere School District. All of us get better when we share our practices with one another for our students!
Our primary focus this year is on well being, quality instructional practices and student engagement.
We need you to share your practice by leading a breakout session with fellow educators around one of the above focus areas. Sessions may include one or more adult presenters. Please consider including student presenters as a way of bringing the student voice into our conference.
