GRE Staff Newsletter

For the Week of September 30, 2018

Dear Team,

I hope you had an amazing weekend and had the opportunity to get outside and enjoy Fall weather! I saw beautiful homecoming pictures, soccer games, apple picking and so many more fun family moments from many of your Facebook pages. My family is sporting quite the sunburn after a day full of Flag Football and pumpkin picking.

A huge thank you to the amazingly talented Christine Doran! All the behind the scene work that went into an amazing Homecoming deserves a huge round of applause. The students had a blast, the parade turnout was amazing, and we all had the change to remember how lucky we are to call Big Walnut "home". As someone who was observing traditions for the first time, it was every bit as amazing as Christine told me it would be back in late July.

Last week felt like a marathon with Parent Teacher Conferences, Spirit Week and schedule changes so as the calendar turns to October, hopefully this week will feel a little more calm. We have a staff meeting this Tuesday morning at 7:30. Click here to see a DRAFT of the agenda we will tackle. Light refreshments will be served-can't wait to see you for another morning full of learning!

Here's to another great week at GRE!

News to Share

1. I still have several K-2 teachers, that need to email Ginna and Kate what time you teach Fundations. Please take care of this by the end of the day Wednesday.

2. Moving forward, if you do not keep Keys to Success for something in your classroom, please discourage kids from writing their names on them. We are trying to recycle them. If they are turning them in for a Friday drawing or Party with the Principal then they will still need their name. Also, be sure you looked at Angie's email regarding the chains in your mailboxes and making sure that all students have a chain. Many kids have added these to their backpacks. I've also see teachers use these as a display in their classroom.

3. Don't forget that Eagle Extensions begin this week! Be sure to check and see if you have any students participating-this will change their end of day routine.

4. State of the Schools will be held on November 8th during the school day. This year we will be utilizing Facebook Live to try and capture a larger audience. Check out the details below.

Supporting our Students

One thing that you would have heard in my classroom on a daily basis was music. Music has the power to transform a school environment. Take a look at the picture below and see how you might add music into your classroom. If you want to give it a try I know many teachers who are using music right now in their rooms for different reasons. I also know we are fortunate to have an amazing Music Educator in our building who would be happy to brainstorm some ideas!
