A Thoughtful Classroom Update
Living and Learning in Third Grade
Nightly Homework
Just a reminder that each night students need to be making time for reading and math fact fluency! Reading can be enjoyed independently or as a partnership! Math fact fluency needs to be completed fast and furiously! Please help time your child! This high pressure practice will help them be more successful on the Friday assessment they take in class!
Reader's Workshop
Learning targets this week were: Staying focused while building stamina as a third grade reader, monitoring for meaning when we come to words that are new to us, and visualizing by creating mental movies in our minds while reading. We are almost done with our workshop launch! Soon we will begin our fiction unit!
Math Workshop
Students have been working on reading a clock to the nearest minute, naming fractional parts of a clock, and determining elapsed time. Ask them to tell you what it means to tell time the "smart" way!
Writing Workshop
Students worked on "editing as they go" this week. Strategies for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation were modeled. Students also spent time using the third grade rubric to identify strong writing skills and weak writing skills.
Just some reminders...
IXL is a great resource for practicing fluency and math skills!
