Monthly Memo from the Principal

Mrs. Robbins- October 2022

Happy Fall Y'all!

Can you believe it is already October? I know it does not always feel like it, but it is officially FALL. Seems just like yesterday we were welcoming all of our new kindergarteners to Kinder Camp and showing the second graders how to find their rooms upstairs. And now we are hosting parent/teacher conferences and preparing for report cards to go home (or technically shared in your Home Access Center). Let us know if you have NOT had your parent/teacher conference yet and need help setting one up with your child's teacher. You may also double-check that you are able to log into your child's HAC (Home Access Center). Report cards will be posted by October 21. If you are looking for resources you can use at home, please check out the Leander ISD LaunchPad for online apps your child can use from home for practice, reinforcement, or fun! You can also reach out to your child's teacher if you need ideas on how to support your child at home. Our number one recommendation is to have your husky READ, READ, READ!!!

This month holds so many fun times and events for our community! Most are listed below. Please let us know if you have any questions about any of the events happening in October. Remember that most of these events and the calendar are also shared on our PHE website, Facebook page, and Twitter.

As always, we are here to help!

Training for all students on bullying

On October 12, all students will receive the annual student bullying training from Mrs. Fields during their specials time. Mrs. Fields will present the training and focus on what the term “bullying” means and how to respond to it. There will also be conversation regarding that “mean” and “rude” behavior, at times, can be mistaken for bullying. We thought that it would be helpful to share those meanings with parents, as well, so that you can support your child at home with these understandings. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. You can also check out the Leander ISD site on bully prevention.

Counselor Corner- October

Hi Husky Families! Counseling services at PHE are off to a great start this year! Here are four visual tools with a brief description that are taught during K-5 counseling lessons throughout the year. These are utilized by teachers in the classroom, and they are also great tools to use at home! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about how to use these resources or if you need any additional support from our counseling program.

Unity Day will be celebrated at school on Friday, October 21. Students are encouraged to wear orange on this day to show that we are united as a campus that promotes kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Our kindness club (C2) will help facilitate a presentation to students, and Mrs. Arnold has taught all of the students a kindness song that we will sing together as a campus. We will share videos and pictures of this special day with all of you via social media, so be on the lookout!

Also, Red Ribbon Week will be recognized the week of October 24.At the elementary level, we use this week to encourage students to make healthy choices with their bodies. Eating healthy foods, exercising, and getting plenty of rest improves learning, emotional regulation, and lowers the risk of developing many mental and physical illnesses. Dress-up days to celebrate this week will be shared soon!

Looking forward to a busy and FUN October at the Hill!!!

Let’s Learn with Bruce: Elections

In an effort to create educational awareness about the November ballot, Leander ISD is hosting a series of conversations. Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., will lead a discussion about Propositions A & B over the next several weeks ahead of the November 8 election.

Due to sizable recent increases in property appraisals across our region, the district’s property values have reached a point that has triggered two elections: an Attendance Credit Election (ACE) and a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE).

We encourage the community at-large to learn more about these ballot issues during the following opportunities:

Please use this link Let’s Learn with Bruce: Elections to let us know you’re attending. While sign-up is not required, it helps us plan for how many participants to expect.

You can also check out this site for more Prop A&B plus election information!

PHE Site-Based Planning Committee 2022

Each campus within Leander ISD has a Site-Based Planning Committee (SBPC). The aim of this committee is improving the achievement of all students. These committees are composed of district employees, community members, business representatives and parents. The committee members provide input to the principal on a wide variety of subjects, including planning, curriculum, budgeting, staff development, staffing patterns, school organization, and school improvements. Should you wish to nominate either yourself or someone else for a position on the SBPC, please fill out the form linked below. Should there be a need, an election will be held to appoint positions to this invaluable team. Our PHE SBP Committee will hold its first meeting once we have secured enough members, but by the end of October. Please complete your nomination form by Friday, October 14 to be considered. We will send out an information email and invite to those that will participate.
