Newsletter #1 2022-2023 School Year

Big picture

Welcome Back!

It was wonderful to meet our new students and to welcome returning students back to school. We hope you enjoyed a fun and relaxing summer! Students are adjusting to the routines a new school year brings. This year, students are no longer cohorted. This means that all students eat during the nutrition break and then go outside for recess. It is exciting to see everyone playing together and to have the opportunity to run clubs and sports.

We have a number of new staff this year. Welcome to Ms. Groulx, our Office Administrator. Our French Team includes Mme Vines, who teaches Core French for Grades 3-8 and Mr. Roy, who teaches Primary Core French. Mrs. Funnell-Kononuk is new to the primary team and is teaching Grade 1/2. We are pleased that many of our support staff have returned. Welcome back Ms. Nolan, Mrs. MacPhee, Mrs. Shunk, and Mrs. Tahamton.

Masking is optional however families are asked to complete the daily COVID-19 Screener before sending your child to school. Keeping your child home when they are feeling unwell continues to be very important. With any symptoms of illness, COVID-19 related or not, sick individuals should stay home and seek assessment from their regular health care provider if required.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or to contact me at the school.

Wishing you an exciting year of fun-filled learning experiences ahead!

Open House

Our Open House will be held on Wednesday, September 28th from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. We hope to see you there! This will be an opportunity to meet your child's teacher and to visit their classroom.

Parent Council Update

The first Parent Council meeting is on Monday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the Resource Centre. We hope to see you there! If you need childcare, please contact the school by the 14th of September.

Bingo Volunteeers Needed

If you are interested in working Bingos, please contact Jennifer King at jennifercelineking@gmail.com

Bingos are a fantastic fundraiser for our school, but we need your help to staff them so that we can continue to earn money to fund different initiatives at the school. The time commitment is generally two hours once every few months.

Student Safety

Please ensure that you are not parking on the the sides of the street with restricted parking acess. It is also much appreciated when cars leave a wide enough turn around space for the bus to swing in to enter the lot in the mornings.

Cars should not enter the parking lot between 8:40 and 9:10 a.m., or between 3:15 - 3:40 p.m. to allow buses to safely let students on or off the bus. Thank you for your help in ensuring students' safety.

Colour House Update

This year, we are able to mix students from different classes for special activities. We plan to do some special colour house activities this year. We have ensured that students who have siblings in the school are now in the same colour house. This may mean your child's colour house colour will change from the colour they were in last year.

Terry Fox Run/Walk September 23

In 1980, Terry Fox set the bar high for himself when he started his Marathon of Hope, saying, “Nobody is ever going to call me a quitter.” Our school is proudly taking part in this year's Terry Fox School Run at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 23rd, to continue Terry's legacy. Please support our school's fundraising efforts to raise much needed funds for cancer research. Truedell students are encouraged to bring in a toonie for Terry on the day of the event. You can also fundraise online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/TruedellPSKingston or bring your donations to your child's teacher. The class that fundraises the most will win a class pizza party the following Friday! The top two individual students who fundraise the most in the school will each win a Terry Fox T-shirt. #TerryFoxSchoolRun #TryLikeTerry
