Admin Corner
We are committed to our targeted learning focus for the school:
Ponder, Persevere and Prove It!
Gratitude
We are so grateful that the beginning of the school year is filled with amazing field trips for our students. We are thankful for our community partners who help make these opportunities possible. Students are able to visit the UC Regents' nature preserves, SNARL and Valentine Reserve. Each grade level studies a different lesson while touring the reserve. Additionally, in collaboration with the National Parks Service program Every Kid in a Park, our 4th grade students are able to visit Devil's Postpile and receive a pass for entry into National Parks. Our 3rd grade class just visited the local Indian Caves where they were able to study Nuumu (Paiute) artifacts. Learning about local history helps give students a sense of community in our amazing town.
Attendance
Daily attendance is so important. Please remember to have your student attend every day and arrive on time to school. Our goal is to get above 95% daily attendance!
We have a new system integrated with our attendance program that is making automated contact with families when a student is marked absent. If you have already called in your child's attendance for the day, you can ignore the message. If you have not already made contact, please call our attendance hotline to report why @ 760-934-7162. If your child’s absence is not reported, it is considered truant. Also note that this is a monitored line for leaving an attendance message only. You will not receive a call back.
FUN RUN
Fun Run is coming Friday, October 13. Does your student have their pitch ready when asking for donations? Have your student choose one or two things they love about our school and one or two ways their fundraising supports the school. For example, my 5th grade son loves soccer. Donations to the PTO help purchase equipment like soccer balls for PE and recess. Your student can tell potential donors how their donation directly helps our students and supports our school.
Find out how the PTO uses funds at: https://www.mammothpto.org/
Thank you to everyone who has been raising money online at https://www.mightycause.com/event/2023funrun.
This week your student will bring home a donation envelope for cash and check donations. You can raise money both online and by cash/check. Please fill out the envelope with your student’s name, teacher, grade and how much total money they put into the envelope when it gets turned in.
Checks can be made out to MES PTO.
Envelopes can be turned in to your student’s teacher the day of the event, Fri, Oct. 13.
Every student who raises $5 or more will receive a Thank You Gift from the PTO. Students who raise $200 or more will receive a special prize from the PTO.
We appreciate your support of the Fun Run and your fundraising efforts to benefit our school and students.

MAC - Mono Arts Council Spotlight
We are so excited to get started with our Create with the Greats program from Mono Arts Council. For our first artist this year, students will be learning about the art of Keith Haring. Don't forget - these works won't be coming home with your students, but they will be held in portfolios at school for the spring Open House!
Keith Haring was an artist who rose to fame in the early 1980s. He is well known for his large, colorful works using bold, confident lines and simplistic-seeming shapes. His style was considered pop art, and came from the graffiti subculture of New York City.
