Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We hope you are able to stay warm and safe this upcoming weekend. As I am finalizing my newsletter, I can hear the wind picking up outside. This past week, we passed a milestone at Haynes, celebrating the Halfway Day. On Tuesday, we will be celebrating another great milestone, the 100th Day. This past week was very busy as we invited authors to share their stories, writing strategies, and provided students with advice about reading during our World Read Aloud Day. In addition, we also celebrated our Global Play Day. So many positive celebrations in such a short period of time!
Many of you have been asking about Valentine's Day this year. We have advised the teachers to have the same protocols as in previous years. However, it is important to note that we will not be having classroom parties and will not be passing out candy. If your teacher's classroom is doing a craft, or messages to one another, please focus more on the aspect of friendship.
This past week, we began our "lucky tray" event, thanks to our student advisory council members. Each week, one person from each grade has an opportunity to receive the "lucky tray". If they are selected, then they can choose a fidget from Dr. Ekstrom's fidget box. The students were very excited about this and celebrated their peers who received the "lucky tray" during their lunch.
We hope you enjoy this week's newsletter. We have much to share! As always, thank you for your continuous support for Haynes.
Sincerely,
Nadine Ekstrom, Ph.D.
Interim Principal

5th Grade Fundraising
The 5th Grade school store has been going very well and the students have been excited about their purchases. We thank HOP for assisting with these events. The 5th grade fundraising events help to support their fun night at the end of the school year. In 5th grade students have been assisting their younger peers through this process and have been amazing role models. The school store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Principal for the Day and Assistant Principal for the Day
This past Wednesday, we had two amazing helpers, our Principal of the Day and Assistant Principal of the Day. Their day began with morning announcements, meeting with Officer Latini to talk about school safety, reading books to students in the classrooms, determining indoor/outdoor recess, passing out the birthday card celebrations, helping to prepare for the upcoming All-School meeting, tour of the "behind the scenes" places in the school such as the boiler room, working kitchen, teaching some students calming strategies, and ending the day to support school dismissal. We thank our helpers!
