A Message from the Superintendent....
Welcome back to another exciting school year in the Galena Park Independent School District! Each new year provides an opportunity to use the accomplishments of the past as the starting point for even greater successes going forward. As we begin the year, please know our goal remains the same – to provide the BEST education possible for all students in our District.
The 2019-2020 school year is officially underway and our top priority in Galena Park I.S.D. is to provide a safe and secure environment for our students to flourish. We seek nothing but the best for our community. Quality facilities, dedicated employees, eager students and supportive parents serve as the ingredients for an excellent education. We are committed to giving 100 percent each and every day of the school year to prepare our students to be successful in the path they choose – whether it’s college, a career, or service in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.
In Galena Park I.S.D., it’s all about Excellence! We have a legacy of success in the classroom and on the athletic and performance fields. We will continue to celebrate history while embracing the future.
Thank you for the tremendous role you play in educating our community’s most valuable resource – our children.
Respectfully,
Angi M. Williams, Ed.D.

Galena Park I.S.D. Welcomes Two New Board Members
At the August Galena Park I.S.D. (GPISD) Board of Trustees meeting, Noe Esparza and Norma Hernandez were sworn in by Judge Joe Stephens to fill Position 6 and Position 7 of the GPISD Board. The vacancy in Position 6 was created by the resignation of Trustee Minnie Rivera. Position 7 became vacant upon the passing of long-time Board member, Dawn Fisher.
Noe Esparza, appointed to fill Position 6, is a graduate of Galena Park High School. He works as a Regional Director at the Donaldson Company, and has attended San Jacinto College-North and the University of Houston. Mr. Esparza is married, and is the proud father of two sons, both of whom have graduated from GPISD schools. He remarked, “I want to serve our community and see our children succeed.”
Norma Hernandez, appointed to fill Position 7, is a graduate of Harlingen High School, the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and Texas Southern University. She is a former teacher and registrar, having served 38 years at Galena Park High School until her retirement in 2017. She is married, and her two adult daughters are graduates of Galena Park High School. She looks forward to working with her new colleagues on the Galena Park I.S.D. Board of Trustees “to give back to the District that has played such an important part in [her] life.”
The appointments of both Norma Hernandez and Noe Esparza were unanimously approved by the Board. Ramon Garza, Board President, stated, “While we will truly miss both Ms. Rivera and Mrs. Fisher and are forever grateful for their service to our students, the Board is excited to welcome our new colleagues, who bring their own perspectives, experiences and knowledge. We look forward to serving our great community with Mrs. Hernandez and Mr. Esparza as part of our Team of 8.”
