No Tiger Times Next Week

Due to next week's short week, there will be no Tiger Times on Friday, November 26th.

We hope that all of our Titus Families have a wonderful Thanksgiving and have a safe and restful break!

American Education Week

This week we recognized American Education Week. Below are pictures from all grade levels and specials that showcase the amazing teaching and learning that is occurring in our classrooms. Our students participated in journal writing, book clubs, math games, habitat drawing, creating model limbs, and the list could go on and on.

We hope you enjoy a small glimpse into the teaching and learning occurring at Titus.

Mrs. Niemeyer Schorpp - History Club

The following blurb was shared about Mrs. Niemeyer Schorpp and her History Club:

Ms. Niemeyer-Schorpp was awarded a CB Cares Educational Foundation Learning Grant to help her start an after-school History Club for 5th and 6th graders at Titus Elementary. The grant allowed the group to bring speakers in and to purchase items that could be used from year to year. This club gives history fans a place to gather with other students who share their interests. These photos show members of the club looking at World War II primary sources from the English home front and playing games from the 1940s. Thank you CB Cares Educational Foundation for your support of our staff and students!

Bus Reminders

This week Mrs. Pustay reviewed bus expectations with all students over announcements and by speaking to each bus prior to dismissal. Please help us to review those expectations with your child at home. We have discussed keeping hands and feet to ourselves, staying seated while the bus is in motion, sitting appropriately on the bus, and the volume of our voices while on the bus. The safety of our students while riding the bus is one of our top priorities.

Your help and support is greatly appreciated in reiterating these expectations with your child. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

Early Dismissal Reminders

If you are picking up your child early from school, please be prepared to show ID in the main office. This is for the safety of all of our Titus students.

The main office thanks you for your cooperation.

From the Nurse

The health office will be conducting vision screenings beginning 6th grade and working backwards through the grade levels. Vision screenings should be completed prior to the holiday break.

Any questions regarding vision screenings should be directed to Mrs. Donovan at jedonovan@cbsd.org or 267-893-4515.

Label, Label, Label

As the weather begins to get colder and more of our students are wearing jackets and other outside items, please make sure that all of your child's things are labeled. Our lost and found area in the cafeteria is growing with really nice sweatshirts, jackets, etc. By placing your child's name on all of their items, it will be much easier for us to return those items to the rightful owner.

Thank you in advance for your help!

As parents, we have had to consider the impact of the last 18 month on our children. Steven Mintz, an historian at the University of Texas at Austin and author of “Huck’s Raft: A History of American Childhood,” believes that traumatic events can leave “invisible scars” that might shape the character of a generation. However, recent studies have indicated that this might take the form of being more focused about the future such as their place in the world and a stronger commitment to social issues. Although we may see a cautious approach from our children, they may also be energized and optimistic about what lies ahead. Students may find themselves exploring new career paths and ready to take action. This is where we may see the resiliency and empathy that many young people have when faced with struggles. Losing time in the past year can be seen as a negative but also as an opportunity to appreciate what is ahead. Take a moment and ask your daughter or son what the future looks like. Can they connect their thoughts to the career education activities they are working on this school year in Smart Futures and Naviance?

For comments or questions, please contact Ginny Barrett at vbarrett@cbsd.org.

Box Tops

Did you know that you can earn money for Titus just by buying groceries?

That’s right! You can help support the Titus Home and School Association by utilizing the Box Tops for Education program in any (or all) of the following ways!

1) Download the Box Tops for Education App and scan your receipt every time you shop in store.

2) Create an account at www.boxtops4education.com and forward your digital receipts (from online grocery shopping) to receipts@boxtops4education.com for credit.

3) Collect the older “clip” version of Box Tops (the ones you cut out that have an expiration date) and send them to school in a baggie labeled with your child’s teacher’s name. There is a collection box in the main office.

4) Don’t want to bother with the app or email? Send in your grocery receipts to school and we’ll take care of the scanning. Label the receipt with your child’s teacher’s name and have your child place it in the Box Tops collection bin in the main office. (All receipts must be received within 7 days of purchase to allow time for scanning before they expire.)

Every little bit helps! If you have any questions about the Box Tops program or need help with the app, contact Stephanie Wolff at srwolff2@verizon.net.
