Pi Day Celebration
Students are able to earn extra credit for completing various tasks for this holiday. The three options are listed below, and students may choose to do one, two, or all three of the tasks for to earn up to 5 points of extra credit. Completion of one task will earn students 3 points of extra credit and two or more tasks will earn them 5 points. Students can:
- bring in circular snacks to share with the class
- design and wear a Pi Day shirt to school
- learn the "A Slice of Pi" song included below
I am also looking for a few volunteers to send in pies for us to snack on during our party because Pi Day is not complete without pies! Please let me know if you are willing to assist.

We will also begin discussing solar ovens, and students will prepare to build an oven of their own to cook a hot dog. I do not have a particular due date in mind at this time, but would like to mention ahead of assigning this task to students that the majority of the materials needed to design a successful solar oven are items that are already in our homes. The following is a short list of materials commonly used to construct solar ovens. Two to three of the materials together are generally enough to serve the purposes of our assignment.
- Shoe box/small box
- Plastic container/Tupperware container
- Aluminum foil
- Black paint
- Black paper
- Saran wrap
- Skewer
- Small Mirror
