Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a free book gifting program that mails high-quality books to children from birth until their 5th birthday regardless of their family’s income. “The single most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school,” states the National Commission on Reading.
Financial Donations made through the Blue River Community Foundation have allowed this wonderful program to be offered in our community! Each month, registered children who live in Southwestern’s school district will receive an age appropriate book in the mail, addressed to them, at no cost to the family. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has partnered with the American Printing House for the Blind, Inc. to make many wonderful books in the program available in braille and audio format for children who are blind or visually impaired in order for all children to benefit from these wonderful books.

School Counselor Corner
Hello, Spartan Nation,
I wanted to send out information about the 21st Century Scholars Program to ALL 7th and 8th grade families. NOW is the time for you to enroll your child for this program if you believe that you qualify.
What is 21st Century Scholars?
It is an early-college promise program designed to help ensure that every Hoosier student can afford the opportunity provided by a college education. Today, eligible students who maintain the Scholar Pledge to excellence in school and life receive a scholarship for up to four years of up to 100% tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school.
This is an AMAZING opportunity for those who qualify. How do you know if you qualify? Please take a look at the flyer linked below for income guidelines, however they do align with the national guidelines for the free and reduced lunch program.
Would you like more information about this scholarship program? Please check out the video below that introduces the 21st Century Scholars Program and the flyer below where all of the information is easily accessible. The flyer shows both the website where you can go online to enroll your child and it provides a phone number to call should you have any questions or not have internet access. They are willing to help you with enrollment over the phone, but you will need to have information prepared ahead of time to do this. The flyer gives a list of the information that you will need handy to complete the application.
The deadline to enroll your child for this program is JUNE 30th of their 8TH GRADE YEAR.
Now is a great time to enroll your child and help them get a great plan for paying for a 2-year or 4-year college experience.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance.
Take care- stay healthy and safe!
Best regards,
Piper Hottell

IHSAA Spring Sports Officially Cancelled
SW Spring Sports Senior Athletes
With IHSAA cancelling spring sports for student athletes in Indiana, Mr. Days highlighted some of Southwestern's amazing senior athletes to think about the success that they would have had during their final year as a high school athlete. Spring sports senior athletes, our hearts go out to you! Thank you for a wonderful three years! We are proud of you!
Drew Drake
"Drew Drake has proven himself as one of the best high jumpers in Indiana and in Southwestern's history. Spartan Nation was excited to see him make it to state competition again this year as he did in 2018."

A Note from the Nurse
New for the 2020 - 2021 school year, ALL students in preschool through 12th grade will be required to have 2 Hepatitis A vaccines. The Hepatitis A vaccination requires 2 shots in order to be considered compliant. These 2 shots must be given no sooner than 6 months apart.
For example, if at student receives the first Hepatitis A vaccination on February 1, 2020 the student cannot get the second vaccination until August 1, 2020 or after. Therefore, it is important that you get this series started as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Vise at rvise@swshelby.k12.in.us.
