Reading
Comprehension
This week we compared and contrasted two different Gingerbread Man books. We also talked about Character Traits and the difference between describing characters using adjectives and describing a character's trait. We brainstormed some character traits of the Gingerbread Man. They came up with some good ones (sassy, hot stuff, mischievous, tricky...) Then we wrote reasons why the Fox should not eat the Gingerbread Man using the character traits. So Cute!
The Gingerbread Man Loose in Meadowview
After reading The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, we discovered that he was loose in Meadowview. We joined our Pre-School friends and went on a hunt to find him. They were so cute and loved searching the school for him.
Phonics
Letter Name, Sounds, and Writing
We are continuing to work on the "SH" sound (shop). We have also introduced the "CH" sound as in (chip). We are also working on how to write a sentence. Every Friday, we will be writing a sentence for assessment and growth. I will attach the sentence in the Monday Homework Packet. Please have your child practice writing the sentence. Also, when working on sight words, make up a simple sentence using one or two sight words and have your child try to write it...sounding out all the sounds they hear and writing them down. A sample of this weeks sentence is below. It will be in your Monday Homework Packet. As you can see, the first three words are sight words and the last word your child should be able to sound out. (we have been working on the "SH" sound.
Math
Greater Than and Less Than
We started working with numbers and talking about which is greater than and which is less then. One focus this week is to make sure we are using our Academic Vocabulary of "Greater and Less". Some of our little ones like to say, "10 is better than 6" or "10 is bigger than 6". When working at home with your child, please make sure to have them use their Academic Vocabulary of "Greater Than and Less Than".
Administration
The Grinch Stole Christmas
Thursday, December 17th we will be reading The Grinch Stole Christmas and doing some fun activities. If the kids could wear their "Grinch" Green (or if they have a Grinch shirt), that would be fun.
Holiday Parties
Holiday Parties are scheduled for this Friday, December 18th.
10:00-11:00 a.m. and 2:00-2:50 p.m.
