SeeSaw Connection APP for Parents
How will we know class placement and who our FABULOUS TRUMAN TEACHER will be?
Students will be "introduced" to their teacher on Wednesday, August 19. The first time students log on to SeeSaw, they will be greeted by an introductory video for their class! This virtual "Meet the Teacher" will replace Back-to-School Night for this year.
We are unable to change class placement for any reason at this time due to complicated scheduling processes and learning management system (SeeSaw) set-up. Thank you for understanding and for not emailing or phoning at this time. If you experience any difficulties once the year begins, please reach out and I will help problem-solve.
Remote Learning Schedules:
Many have asked how remote learning for students enrolled in the traditional/remote learning option or the blended learning option will be structured. Daily schedules have been designed to keep students engaged throughout the school day, without being in front of a screen for hours at a time.
Please keep in mind that each teacher’s class may differ slightly, and teachers will communicate directly with students and parents. There will be an option to choose AM or PM times for your child to have music and PE, and for your child to have access to small groups (GT, Special Ed, etc.) Teachers will reach out to you individually regarding your preference.
It is important to note that students who are enrolled in full-time virtual learning will not follow the remote learning schedules. Rather, they will receive different schedules from their NPS teachers if they are enrolled in a full-time virtual NPS option.
ALL STUDENTS ENROLLED IN Virtual ExpandED- If you indicated that your student will participate in NPS ExpandED, you must call 405-801-3810 or email dmorris@norman.k12.ok.us to complete enrollment. Students are not automatically enrolled just by marking ExpandED on your enrollment form.
Device Check-Out and School Supplies
Families who indicated during enrollment that they do not have access to a tablet, computer, or internet will be contacted the week of August 17th to schedule a checkout time.
Remote Learning Attendance
a) does not submit at least 90 percent of assignments.
b) does not log in and attend at least 90 percent of scheduled lessons.
c) is not on track to pass the course.
If a student can meet one of the criteria above, they will be counted present during remote learning.
Remote Learning Grades:
Bridge the Gap Digital Wallet Grant Opportunity for Families
- Bridge the Gap is an initiative that will allocate $8 million from the Governor Stitt's Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund to provide Oklahoma families who fall below the federal poverty line with access to purchase technology, materials or supplies.
- The grant provides $1,500 for families.
Bridge the Gap is administered by Every Kid Counts Oklahoma (EKCO), a new education-focused organization, and EKCO will be awarding the grants to up to 5,000 Oklahoma families on a first-come, first-served basis.
Families must submit an application online in order to qualify. Families who meet the federal low-income level guidelines of less than $26,200 per year for a family of four will be given priority to receive the Bridge the Gap grant.
Application is also available in Spanish.
Community Resources
We understand many families need assistance with supervising their children while parents and caregivers go to work. We are working closely with the United Way, and other community groups who have stepped in, to provide assistance during this period of remote learning. Click here to view opportunities for families in need.
If you know of an organization that is providing caregiving assistance, please encourage them to submit information to the United Way to be included on the list of resources. Submission information can be found at www.unitedwaynorman.org/vlr.
Meal Information
As we transition from summer to the school year, there are some changes to our meal service program. In keeping with the national school lunch program guidelines, Norman Public Schools will continue to offer meals to any enrolled students that are in need and would like to participate. Families must fill out the pre-order form and provide the student’s name and ID number in order to receive meals.
Weekly meals for up to four children per vehicle will be distributed in the car lines of most of our traditional school sites on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families who have more than four children should pre-order the meals and must pick them up at the NPS Central Kitchen, located at 111 N. Berry, on Mondays between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Families who cannot pick up the weekly meals Monday at traditional school sites may pick them up Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families who cannot pick up weekly meals on Monday or Tuesday are encouraged to contact our Child Nutrition office at 405-366-5908 to make alternative arrangements. Families may only pick up weekly meals for their children one time per week.
Please use the links below to indicate the date and school site where you will pick up next week’s meals. This allows our child nutrition team to plan adequate meals for each site. Federal guidelines mandate that you must provide the student’s name and ID number to receive meals.
- Monday, Aug. 17 - (four students or fewer per vehicle)
- Tuesday, Aug. 18 - (four students or fewer per vehicle)
- Central Kitchen
Families who drive to the school are encouraged to stay in their car. The weekly meals will be distributed in a drive-through fashion. Students can go to any traditional NPS school to pick up food, although no more than four meals per vehicle will be distributed at traditional school sites. Families with five or more children must preorder at the link above and pick up meals from the NPS Central Kitchen.
If you need assistance with delivery options or other options for pick up, you can contact Central Kitchen at 405-366-5908. If you have any additional comments or questions you may contact the child nutrition office.
