Espionage Act and Sedition Act

Esopionage Act passes making it illegal to try to convince an American to dodge the miltary draft.

The Sedition Act also passes making it illegal to try and prevevnt the sale of war bonds or speak negatively about the government, the flag, the military, or the Constitution.


Well know Socialist Party leader, a one Eugene V. Debs, has been jailed under the passing of this acts.

Schneck v. United States and The Sacco Vanzetti Trial!

Court Finds in Favor of America! Sacco and Vanzettie Convicted of Murder and Armed Robbery!

The court has unanimously upheld the conviction of a Socialist Party member who mailed pamphlets urging resistance to the draft. In a wartime, Justice Olive Wendell Holmes wrote, the First Amendment could be restricted: "Free speech would not protect a man falsely shouting 'fire' in a theater and causing panic." If, according to the words of Holmes, words "are of such a nature as to create a ckear and present danger that they will bring about the substantial evils tha Congress hass a right to prevent," free speech could be limited.


Ferdinando Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were arrested in May 5th 1920 and were found armed. Evidence found against the two men have found them guilty and they are to executed on a date to be set by Congress.
