Principal Note
I-Ready Spring Diagnostic Window
Our students have done an amazing job this week showing grit, perseverance, and excellence on their spring i-Ready diagnostic assessment. The window remains open next week, as some students still need to complete a reading or math assessment. Next week I will communicate information about how parents will have access to their child’s progress. You can learn more about i-Ready by visiting https://sites.google.com/d303.org/i-readyresources/home.
2022 Spring Panorama SEL Survey
This year, students in grades 3-12 completed the SEL survey to assess their strengths related to their social and emotional skills. Our students participated in the survey in the fall, and again this spring. Parents will receive their child’s results via US Mail the week of May 9th. The use of this tool allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with social and emotional skills.
The Panorama SEL Survey provides individual students information in the following areas:
Self-management: the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations
Emotional regulation: the ability to respond to the ongoing demands of experiences with the range of emotions
Social Awareness: the ability to understand the perspectives of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and contexts
Grit: the ability to approach long term goals with passion and perseverance
Self Efficacy: the ability to believe in one's ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task
Additional information can be found at: https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment.
Strategies to support your child in these social and emotional skill areas can be found at: https://district.d303.org/academics/social-emotional-learning.
Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
Recommendation for New Munhall Principal
As I communicated last night, Zachary Minelli has been recommended for hire to the Board of Education to serve as the new principal of Munhall. The process was an emotional one for me, as it’s not often you get to have a role in hiring your replacement. I am very happy for the Munhall community, as I have extreme confidence in Mr. Minelli’s ability to lead our school community. Pending Board approval, Mr. Minelli will be introduced at the Board meeting on Monday, which begins at 7:00. Board meetings are still live streamed, so feel free to join virtually. D303 Homepage
Band and Choir Concerts
Our 5th grade band and choir students put on amazing performances this week! Our band students showed tremendous growth from the beginning of the year. I’m very proud of our students, as well as Mrs. Lydigsen for the culture that was created this year in the band!
Unfortunately I needed to miss the 5th grade choir concert in order to attend my own fifth grade son’s band concert. Mrs. Hammons was extremely impressed with the students. The other staff in attendance was extremely complimentary of our Munhall singers. Thank you for making all of us proud.
MunRun
I want to thank all of our students for their fundraising efforts for the Mun Run. Today our students got to watch a movie during lunch as a reward. Next up on the reward list is the idea of my riding around the school on a tricycle. I don’t know exactly how that will work with my 6’4” frame, but it has me cracking up just thinking about it.
Field Day
By early next week we will be communicating our plans for a Field Day event toward the end of school. We will be needing parent volunteers, so be on the lookout for a communication early next week.
I want to wish all of our mothers a Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy your weekend!!

A Note from Mrs. Taylor
Hello Munhall families
I am writing with both great sadness and excitement to let you know my family and I are moving to the Fort Worth area of Texas at the end of the school year. It is sad because I have worked here for 10 years and this has become my family. It is exciting because the Taylor family is going on a new adventure. We have lived in our house for 20 years and I have never lived outside of Illinois. It has been a true pleasure working here in the main office. Let's enjoy the last few days of the school year.
