Word for the Warrior
Hello Warrior Families!
JSMS students have had a GREAT start to school! At Sevier, we have worked just as hard in each class to build connections and relationships with students, as we have to prepare students for the academic learning that will occur throughout the year!
Each day, students have at least one class and one opportunity to focus on social-emotional learning that absolutely supports academic success. Teachers take time to check in with students both individually and as a class in order to ensure that all students feel seen and heard. Empowerment is critical to success and student voice matters to us.
One of the focal points for us this year has been to help students understand what learning feels like. Often, we when we approach new and difficult learning, we interpret the dissonance that comes in learning something new, challenging or unfamiliar, as weakness and at times tend to shy away from whatever that challenge is.
Carol Dweck, author of MINDSET, challenges us to embrace that dissonance as an opportunity to learn and she encourages us to see success as a growth process rather than something that we are either innately gifted or not gifted to do.
Below, are some videos of our 6th graders already describing how they have embraced difficulty as an opportunity to grow and succeed rather than simply giving up when things get hard!
I have included a link below to resources that support a GROWTH MINDSET at home! Join us in encouraging our kids in developing perseverance and grit as we teach our students to set goals and work hard!
Proud to be a Warrior!
