Week of February 16th-19th
ISTEP testing is nearly here! We will be taking practice tests this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. It is very important that your child gets a good night's rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and is present each day.
The February book orders are coming home today. Attached to each is a coupon for a free book worth up to $5 when you spend $10 or more. If you order online, please go to scholastic.com/readingclub and use our class activation code: NG6FZ. If you would prefer, you can also fill out the paper order form and send in a check made out to Scholastic Reading Club. Happy ordering! :)
We do not have school tomorrow (February 12th) or Monday (February 15th). I hope you all have a fun, relaxing long-weekend!
Student Council: Cookies and Coffee for Soldiers
What is more relaxing than a nice cup of coffee and a sweet treat of cookies?
Our Student Council is sponsoring a coffee and cookie drive for our troops through Friday, March 18th.
How can you help?
Please donate commercially packaged cookies and 1-pound bags of ground coffee. They can be placed on the table across from the Lost and Found. The donations will be packaged and sent to soldiers all around the world by The Military Support Group in Indianapolis in late March. Thanks for brightening a soldier's day!
Spring Music Program:
Central's spring music program will be taking place on April 12th at 7pm. Mr. Meyer will be sending a letter home soon.
Just like last grading period, Accelerated Reader will count as two reading grades. One grade will be for reading comprehension accuracy; the goal is for students to earn at least 85% accuracy. The other grade will be based on whether your child achieves his/her reading goal. All students have gotten their new goal for the grading period. It can be found in the front cover of their assignment notebook. Please take a look.

We have been working on cause and effect for the past couple of weeks; short passages and Pourquoi Tales have been utilized to help us with this skill. On Friday, the class will still be working on cause and effect, but they will be applying it to the movie Hotel Transylvania 2. While we watch the film, students will be filling out a cause and effect worksheet that goes along with it. The movie is rated PG for some scary images, action, and rude humor. A permission slip to view the film is coming home today. Please sign and return it by Thursday, February 18th.
