A Monthly E-Newsletter for Spotswood Educators

Have A Great Summer!

Dear Colleagues,

As the school year comes to an end, I want to wish you an enjoyable and relaxing summer vacation. The close of the school year is often busy with last minute items, grading of exams, and the packing up of classrooms. As you finish those last minute responsibilities, I thank you for your dedication to our students and school district.

This summer and next school year will have a lot of exciting opportunities for you as staff members. To start, there will be summer professional development. A number of excellent classes will be taught to expand your professional knowledge and instructional skills. Additionally, there will be three voluntary “book clubs” offered for those interested. The books include Susan Brookhart’s How to Assess Higher Order Thinking Skills in Your Classroom, and her other book How to Create and Use Rubrics for Formative Assessment and Grading, and Dave Burgess’ Teach Like a Pirate. All three books are free to staff who wish to participate and the conversations will occur on-line through Edmodo. Finally, to start the school year 40 teachers will take part in our 1 to 1 laptop pilot. This is an exciting opportunity for us to identify what is the best type of technology for our district and how we can infuse its use into the classroom.

Lastly, I would like to wish our colleagues who are moving on to a new job or retirement the best in their future endeavors.

Enjoy your summer break!
