January - Happy New Year!

Due to the holiday break we are sending the January Newsletter out a bit early. Happy Holidays!

PCM DISTRICT OFFICE WINTER BREAK HOURS

The PCM School District's District Office will be open from 8:00am-3:00pm on Monday, December 23 and Tuesday, December 24th, 2019. The District Office will be closed from December 25, 2019 - January 1, 2020.

State Champions

Congratulations to the PCM Dance Team. They participated in the Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association competition on Thursday, December 5th and came home with two State Championships. They took 1st place with their Novelty and Hip Hop routines and 2nd place with their Pom routine. All three performances were Division I ratings. This group of 14 girls and two coaches work incredibly hard; starting practice for this dance season on their own during summer break, then 6am practices with their coaches several days a week throughout the school year and even some two a day practices within the few weeks before the State competition. A majority of the girls are also in other sports and on the competition team with the local dance studio.

Way to go girls! Your hard work has paid off and PCM is proud of you!

Be sure to come support them at their spring show Saturday, February 29th!

Vaping - A National Epidemic

Student vaping and vaping, in general, has become a local, state and national concern. Governor Reynolds has recently launched a campaign to raise awareness among teenagers and their parents around the risks of youth vaping, which is a growing epidemic in Iowa and nationally. Schools play a critical role in this conversation, not only because of the expertise of school nurses and health educators, but also because of the relationships that educators and school leaders have with students and families.

Provided below are some resources and videos for parents and families to use to learn more about the dangers of vaping.

District Protects Students with CrisisGo Alerting and Emergency Communication Network

The PCM School District's first priority is the safety of our students. We are launching a new safety app called CrisisGo that will empower our staff to react more quickly and effectively to any emergency situation. Parents and students will also have access to the app, allowing them to stay informed of safety risks, securely and anonymously report bullying or harassment, and do their part in improving safety within our district’s community.

We’re living in a world where danger isn’t just physical — our students also face cyber and emotional threats. The CrisisGo app has a complete suite of safety tools which cover the range of safety challenges our students may face. Accessible from any smartphone, mobile device, or computer, these features include:

· Distinct emergency warnings with audible alerts

· Anonymous, mobile incident reporting

· Dependable, two-way crisis communications

· Personal panic button with GPS for teachers and staff

· Safety Awareness Messaging

· And much more!

Our new safety app will transform the way we protect our students and staff. We encourage all staff, parents, and students to download the CrisisGo app on their mobile devices when we launch on January 1, 2020.

What other districts say about the value of the CrisisGo app:

“There's everything that you can think of in a crisis is at your fingertips.” – Walter O’Neil, Security Manager at Long Branch Public Schools

About CrisisGo: CrisisGo is a comprehensive safety solution that keeps the people you're responsible for protected at school, home, work, or on the go. CrisisGo’s advanced technology transforms any smartphone, mobile device, or computer into a personal safety assistant, combining safety awareness, emergency instructions, and crisis response tools. CrisisGo’s mobile safety tools have been chosen by over 14,000 schools and organizations. You can find more information at www.crisisgo.com.
