ALL-TEAM Practice- Yoga with Ken/ Swim with Coach Lance
Yogo with Ken Immer starting at 7:00am
Ken will lead us through a short yoga routine as a warm-up before we jump in for practice. Ken has been teaching yoga for over 10 years, and specializes in a style yoga that focuses on anatomical alignment and individual needs called Structural Yoga Therapy. Our session will focus on some key points that specifically address the needs of swimmers: ankle flexibility, stabilization and power; core integration for strong rotation and total body lengthening. You will walk away with a new understanding of your personal body mechanics that you can then apply in the pool during our workout. The goal is to create a new possibility for you and improve your swimming.
Swimming with Coach Lance starting at 7:30am
The Park West Pool will not be having Saturday Practice as there is a kid's meet at this time. The MLK location will not have a coached practice at this time due to the kid's meet at the Park West Pool.

2015 Palmetto Masters dues/USMS Re-Registration
The 2015 USMS registration and Palmetto Masters Team dues will start in November. With our new team management site, this process will hopefully be easier than past years. Please log into the team site from www.palmettomasters.org using the login and password you set up at the beginning of this year or when you joined. Please verify we have all of your contact information correct and that the credit card we have on file is correct and valid. If you did not pay by credit card initially, you can still add a credit card to be on file. Once we receive your registration renewal from USMS, we will then bill the credit card we have on file. Registration should start November 1, 2014 so please make sure to do this before that time. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Cranny, Team Registrar, at jnradmd@gmail.com
Update From Nepal!!
Hi,
I've been in Kathmandu for about 8 days. It has been busy getting adjusted to life, but here are a few highlights:
1) I attended 2 Mt. Child staff meetings where I met others who are volunteering here.
2) A couple of US lawyers came to Mt.Child / Nepal recently and met with some key leaders here to discuss legal changes needed in this country to help combat the human trafficking issues.
3) I attended 3 days of Wilderness Medical Training. 3 highly experienced doctors from the USA came to teach basics of first aid for remote areas and high altitude health issues. One doctor is very well known in working in other countries, he was responsible for taking care of the Secret Service Agents for President Clinton and Bush for some of their international humanitarian trips. This same doctor is friends with a former NFL Carolina player, Jason Baker, he also came to experience life in Nepal so I met him too. That group is now trekking in the mountains for exploratory purposes as Mt. Child is planning to set up a Healthpost in a remote area in the Himalayas.
**It was at this wilderness training I found out 2 of the common parasites are immune to Chlorine so I decided to opt-out of trying to swim at the nearby outside swimming pool.
4) I taught my first two English classes this week and met the students. It is a mixed class of 27 students, attached is a photo of some of the girls.
5) I wake up to the sounds of monkeys most mornings. While we were doing the wilderness medical training outside, one monkey came near us and stuck his head in the water container used for the guest house. See the attached photo of the monkey and the room I am staying in now.
6) Daily life: Electricity is available only certain times of the day, need to soak produce in vinegar because there is no gov't controlled regulation on pesticides so they can put as much as they want, my laundry will be hung outside to dry - no driers, need to drink filtered water, and I walk to do errands like grocery shopping.
Upcoming events:
1) October 9-20: I'll be trekking into the remote villages, which means I will have no internet access during this time.
2) October 21: I start Nepali classes to learn the language, 3 days each week for 2 hours a day.
3) October 27: English classes expand to other locations. The details are still to be finalized (Location A) 5 days a week at one for 1-2 hours each day (Location B) 2 days a week for 1.5 hours each day and (Location C) probably 2 days a week for an hour each day.
So it will be very busy -- teaching at 3 different places, classroom preparation for those classes, 3 days each week for Nepali Language classes, my language homework, and traveling to all the places.
One challenge will be getting from one teaching location to another. Taxi is always an option, but it can be expensive - to get to 1 school is about $20 round trip. Many people drive motor scooters, but the traffic is very busy, roads are filled with potholes, traffic is opposite sides of the street to what I'm used to in the US. Plus there are not street signs, traffic lights, etc. I tried it for the first time a couple of days ago just driving a few blocks. I am considering taking driving lessons to see if I can be more confident in driving one and/or may buy a mountain bike to get from place to place, but that also can be challenging due to the traffic/road conditions. I also have thought about walking for some of the time, but it is about 5 miles to at least one of the schools. Once I'm back from trekking, I'll re-evaluate my options. See the attached photo of the high-tech wiring in the streets of Kathmandu. ;)
A nice surprise is Baskin Robbins is about an 8 minute walk from the Mt. Child Guest House. They only have about 10-12 flavors, but I was also told this is the safest place to have ice cream. It will be a nice treat.
Thank you again for all your support and encouragement.
Take care, Amy
