May 2022
We only have a couple days left of this school year! End of Grade testing time is quickly approaching us! I wanted to make everyone aware of the testing schedule. It is as follows:
Wednesday, May 25th-8th Science EOGs
Thursday, May 26th-7th ELA EOGs
Friday, May 27th-6th ELA EOGs
Monday, May 30th-No School, Memorial Day
Tuesday, May 31st-8th Grade ELA EOGs
Wednesday, June 1st-7th Grade Math EOGs
Thursday, June 2nd-8th Grade Math/Math 1 EOGs/EOCs
Friday, June 3rd-6th Grade Math EOGs
Monday, June 6th & Tuesday, June 7th-EOG Makeups
Please make sure your child is here on time (before 7:35am) and has eaten a good breakfast. Students are not allowed to have their phones during testing. They should not be texting you from the classroom to tell you to come get them. That is a testing violation and can result in a misadministration and possibly a test retake for students. Please do NOT come to the school to pick up your child during the testing times (usually between 8am-12:30pm), as they cannot be removed from a testing session. During the testing window, no outside visitors will be allowed in the building. Thank you in advance for following these guidelines.
As the year is ending, all library books, classroom items, and school devices are due. Please take care of all outstanding balances related to missing or damaged items.
Our 8th graders will be celebrating their transition to high school on Tuesday, June 7th from 12pm to 2pm with a student picnic. There will be games, music, and food. This event is for students only.
We want to recognize the following staff, as they were voted on by their peers; Ms. Teris Wolfe-Teacher of the Year, Mr. Noah Spencer-Beginning Teacher of the Year, Ms. Sabrina VanHook, Support Staff of the Year, and Mr. Mike Varano-Teacher Assistant of the Year. Congratulations to all of them for their hard work and contributions to making HMS the best!
Don't forget that we have a tutoring service available for all of our HMS students. Paper is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Over the summer, PaperLive will be available to students allowing them to help combat the summer slide. They will have access to videos, classes, and more.
This summer, we will provide a Summer Bridge Orientation for our rising 6th graders. This will be July 11-14th, July 18-21, and July 25-28th from 8am to 1pm. The daily schedule is focused on preparation and acceleration, not remediation. Core classes include ELA, Math, CTE, and PE. An example of a daily schedule is:
8:00 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. Breakfast and Team Building
8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Core 1
9:20 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Activity
9:55 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Core 2
10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Core 3
11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. Lunch
12:10 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Core 4
In order to plan effectively, students must sign up now for the Summer Bridge program. If you are interested, please complete the form at https://forms.gle/grqn5vHQoD36yxmy9
