Red wolf
Also known as the Canis rufus
Information on Red wolves.
The red wolf can be found in the forests, coastal prairies, and marshes of North Carolina. It is one of the most endangered wild canids. The red wolf is endangered because of loss of habitat and predator control problems.
What is being done to protect it?
People have been working on recovery of the Red wolf since the 1980s with advocacy and public education. The wolf used to be extinct in the wild, but now 100 of them reside in northeastern North Carolina. There is no hunting and/or trapping season for this animal.
A symbolic adoption of a red wolf lets you help these animals.
