Check out these fun facts about CCR3's history!
- Ellis Elementary School was named after J. Breckenridge Ellis. He was an American writer of the late 19th and early 20th century. His most popular book was “Fran” published in 1912 and at one time was America’s best seller. When J. Breckenridge Ellis was 10, his family moved to Plattsburg after his father, John W. Ellis bought Plattsburg College. He spent most of his life in Clinton County.
- In 1980, there were 3 tigers cheerleading on the gym wall.
- In 1981, there were 251 students attending Plattsburg High School. That is close to the same as we have now!
- Until the 1990's, there wasn't a parking lot in front of the high school, only grass.
- Baseball at PHS didn’t start until 17 years ago.
- There use to be a foreign language club, the FLC!
- The picture below is our local school from 1898-1917!
CCR3 & OUR DIGITAL WORLD
THE PLATTSBURG TIMES
By: Ryan Lord
How is technology affecting our world and more importantly...our school district? It is important to keep up with the world around us. Technology director, Brandon Burns, has done a great job making sure our students and teachers have the best equipment possible. This year, he has been hard at work setting up a new technology lab with equipment we have never had at PHS before. High school students will have access to this equipment during the 2017-2018 school year. It will be awesome to find out what we can do next. My question...Is all of this helping or hurting they way we live?
This school year, CCMS and PHS supplied each of their students with their own chromebooks. Ellis students have easy access to Ipads and Chromebooks for classroom use. Our students have the equipment needed to take the technological world by storm.
Technology is quickly making our world a paperless society. There are many advantages to this. Teachers are able to make students’ tests different from one another. They can also add videos to make the tests or homework easier for the students. Teachers can also help students out via email and keep in contact any time of day. Video games encourage kids to solve problems. School games make learning fun.
There are some disadvantages to technology as well. Are we losing the skills to talk face to face to each other? That could be a big downfall for students when it is time to go out into the real world. Some kids use their phones to distract themselves in class! This causes big problems for many teachers. There are also less jobs as humans are replaced by technology. Social isolation, distractions and lack of jobs are just a few ways technology has disrupted schools and society.
Schools across the nation are slowly becoming absorbed by technology. CCR3 has become a very technological school district, but we better remember to also practice good communicating with each other. In my opinion, technology is in school is better, because students are more accessible to learning and they have easier access to instructors and exams.
