K-2 Team Newsletter
Well it’s almost here...Week One of Virtual School at EEP! Thank you all for your transparency and vulnerability in advocating for what you need as educators. We appreciate each and every one of you for your dedication to getting virtual learning up and running for our K-2 scholars. This is a new frontier for us and we acknowledge the additional load of being self-contained teachers in K-1 is not easy and all of K-2 with new content. Please know that you are not alone, your admin is here to support in any way possible so don’t hesitate to reach out. I know the stress of virtual learning and COVID-19 has been difficult for me to navigate through so I wanted to share some resources to support you when things feel too overwhelming. Please check the link below. #weareinthistogether

Dean of Culture
DeansList is still being uploaded with scholars and we should have most scholars rostered in the next two weeks. Please continue to email those names so I can email those validation codes out as the DeansList roster is updated. A gentle reminder, we are not using DeansList for behaviors until Week 3 of school.
K-2: ELA and Math teachers take Class Attendance on ELA and Math Rosters in DeansList
Take attendance throughout the day as you teach your small groups. All attendance should be entered by 1:45 pm each day.
For the first week of school, I recommend giving a lot of leeway for when you take attendance (maybe give kids 10-15 min to get to class before marking them absent). As kids get more accustomed, I recommend moving to take attendance earlier in the class, say after 5 minutes of class goes by.
Dean of SEL
As you reach out to families, please remember that you can begin referring any scholars to me that may need to be on my radar! A new tab will be added to the EEP website for SEL, and you can link your Google Classroom to it so that families have access to even more resources. All of my YouTube videos and a book/website resource list that I created will be on the tab!
SEL lessons will not be posted until at least the second week of classes to ensure that I am there to support you through the first week!
Ops Team has 350+ new requests for Chromebooks that were not included on the original survey from July and are currently out of stock. We are expecting a new shipment some time next week via Computer Pros. Additionally, we don't have an update from MNPS on their technology timeline but it doesn't appear to be immediate.
They will be contacting the 350+ families who have requested laptops but haven't received them yet to poll who absolutely needs a device to be able to start school. When we have that information, we will disseminate the desktops for families in greatest need first and then contact the rest when the new shipment arrives.
Teacher Leader Cohort
There will be a meet and greet for all the K-8 teacher leaders in the 20-21 cohort in August (more details to come). The official program will kick-off after Labor Day. If you have any questions please reach out to your coach or Dr. P!
Related Arts Support
Our fabulous Art Teacher Ms. Gamble has volunteered to help make calls to K families, Rhodes will take 1st grade, and Coach Harris will take 2nd grade for Week 1 of school contacting scholars that haven't been logging into class and problem-solving tech issues etc.. so it's very important to regularly take your attendance. They will be utilizing that fall communication log that is why it's linked in our quick find docs.
Ms. Gamble has volunteered to have Tech Office Hours - Week 2 from 2:00-3:00 pm (Mon-Thurs) on Zoom for families who are struggling with technology (more details to come in the next newsletter).
Coach Harris has volunteered to support four (K-2) and four (3-5) scholars who are in dire need due to extreme circumstances to his day camp to help them with virtual learning. The scholars with the most need based on the initial communication log have been selected and we are in the process of getting them squared with Coach Harris.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO COACH HARRIS, GAMBLE, AND RHODES!!
