February 7 is Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day
Join us in celebrating Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day on Wednesday February 7, 2024. We encourage all students and families to walk, bike, or roll to school that day if it is possible for you. Families who drive can park a few blocks away and walk the rest of the way to school to join in the fun. If you can’t walk or bike to school, consider celebrating with a family walk or bike ride after school!
Walking and biking to school can improve students’ performance in school, give them much needed daily exercise to boost physical and mental health, and help reduce air pollution and traffic congestion around schools. Here are some simple rules to share with your children for safe walking and biking in English, Spanish, Somali, Hmong and Karen.
MnDOT and Dr. Michael Levin from the University of Minnesota are studying the barriers to walking and biking to school, including school start times. As part of that study, they are collecting surveys from families in the metro area who have students in grades 1-5 about walking and biking to school.

EXPO Sticker Fundraiser
Exciting news! Two of our very own 5th grade EXPO students, Ellie Gordon-Strom and Micah Hedwall, designed adorable stickers as a fundraiser for the 5th grade Boundry Waters Camp Adventure! We hope that families and students will support this amazing adventure for 5th grade by purchasing these fun stickers.
We expect to have them available by this Thursday, during the Family Dance Night. If not, then for sure in the coming weeks. Additional information about the sticker fundraiser for the 5th grade BWCA will be coming soon.
Reminder about driving through the neighborhood for Drop off and Pick Up at EXPO
Many EXPO families live in the neighborhood and walk and bike to school every day. We are asking all families who drive to school to help keep everyone safe. Here’s how:
Drive slowly - 20 is Plenty
The speed limit on the streets around EXPO is 20 MPH. Please drive at or below the speed limit. Slower driving is much safer for everyone!
Slow down at intersections and stop for pedestrians
It’s the law - drivers must stop for pedestrians at marked AND unmarked crosswalks. With so many kids walking, please slow down and be ready to stop for them.
NEVER pass another vehicle stopped at an intersection.
The driver ahead may be stopped for a pedestrian, which makes passing stopped vehicles very dangerous.
Pay attention and watch for kids
Small children can be hard to see and unpredictable. Drivers should be alert to keep them safe. Never drive aggressively or while distracted – keep phones put away!
Thank you for your support in making sure that ALL of our students get to school safely!
