AROUND CAMPUS
Beau Chene High School
Beau Chene High-Mrs. Jennifer Hebert’s Nutrition & Foods’ classes went to UL for a campus tour and Lunch Club field trip. Lunch Club is the on-campus restaurant hosted by UL students majoring in Hospitality and Dietetics. The students plan the menu, cook the foods and staff the restaurant each Tuesday and Thursday of the semester. Mrs. Hebert’s students complete a very similar menu project in class.
Cankton Elementary School
Students visited the new Academic Rewards Store for their performance on their 1st 9 weeks report card.
Fourth-grade students are currently studying erosion. They conducted an investigation to determine which type of soil composition is best for preventing erosion caused by rain water.
East Elementary
East Elementary recently invited their grandparents to a special breakfast. Grandparents were able to visit the students' classrooms and see some of their work.
East Elementary fourth grade students were instructed by local VFW members on flag etiquette and the proper way to fold and display the flag.
East Elementary students were treated to a Kona Ice Party for showing positive behavior during the 1st quarter of the school year.
Eunice High School
Eunice High School held its college fair this week to help educate all of their students for post-secondary education options available to them. The students expressed their gratitude and excitement for this opportunity and gained much insight into the college enrollment process.
Lexy Guillory, Austin Arnaud, and Josiah Doucet, are donating bird feeders to St. Edmund 8th grader, F.J. Derouen.
Eunice High FFA completed another service project. Planting smooth cord grass in Vermillion Bay, which is considered open water, helps reestablish marshland and minimizes coastal erosion.
Mr. Terry Fruge' donated this picnic table for our students to have on our outdoor patio.
Glendale Elementary
The third-grade Learning Center students hosted a poetry café and invited their parents to attend. Their family enjoyed listening to the students read their selected poems while drinking hot chocolate and eating homemade cookies.
Ms. Manuel’s 1st-grade class recently did a Science Experiment using on Senses. Pictured below is the class tasting different foods.
Mrs. Manuel’s 1st-grade students made all 100’s on their Spelling pre-test.

Mrs. Monique Smith's 2nd-grade class conducted an Erupting Soda experiment to observe the 3 States of Matter. Diet Pepsi and mint flavored mentos created a chemical reaction!

Second-grade students created animal habitats as a culmination project for their science unit.
Palmetto Elementary received a $2900 grant from Fuel Up To Play 60. The money was used to purchase PE equipment and storage, insulated field trip bags, playground benches, and a glass front cooler for our concession stand. We are now able to sell fresh fruits and vegetables and bottled water.

Palmetto Elementary was awarded a $1000 Eat Move Grow grant. A class set of Kids ergonomic seats was purchased for our 1st and 2nd graders.

Port Barre Elementary has a 4H club this year. We participated in daily activities during National 4H Week. We also elected our 4H officers.
South Street Elementary
South Street Kittens can earn kitten mascots for good behavior. This week’s winners include Mrs. Broussard’s Kindergarten class for hallway behavior, Ms. Hoffman’s kindergarten class for cafeteria behavior, Mrs. Lafleur’s second grade class for attendance, Mrs. Thompson’s third grade class for hallway behavior, Ms. Rami’s third grade class for cafeteria behavior, and Ms. Thomas’s class for attendance
South Street Elementary celebrated boss’s day with breakfast and presentations from the students. Thanks to the cafeteria ladies for making yummy meals for lunch all week.
Mrs. Thompson’s third graders on honor roll. Here is D’Marcus G. who made a 4.0 this nine weeks. Landon, Pearson, Mykayla, Justin, Kirsten, Alayah, Jakavon, Ja’Myrin, and Danaya all received 3.0 or above.

Ms. Shelly Freeman, first female firefighter in Opelousas, and Mr. Trey Hebert visited Ms. Erica LaFountaine Meche’s Journey to Careers class.
Paula Jordan with Healthcare Connections visited Ms. Erica LaFountaine Meche’s 7th grade Journey to Careers class to discuss the importance of a good work ethic and her chosen career.
Mr. Tyrone Glover spoke to the 7th grade Journey to Career students about overcoming all of life’s obstacles and reaching their full potential.
