APRil UPDATES
Welcome Spring! It is amazing that we are entering the last quarter of the 2018-19 school year.
We have been busy learning and having fun at Robert Hunter! Some highlights include a special author visit, the 2nd grade wax museum, a visit with a bagpiper, and an assembly with a professional composer/sound designer (students helped to produce an original song on his sound mixer!) Enrichment clubs are also in full swing! If your child will not be attending a session of their assigned club, please send in a note to the office.
This last marking period offers students opportunities to integrate, apply and extend the new learning presented to them throughout this school year. Our goal at the Robert Hunter Elementary School, is for every child to try something new, express themselves with a bit more confidence, engage in strategic thinking while problem solving and develop supportive connections with their peers. Thank you for supporting your children in knowing how great they can be.
On behalf of all the staff at Robert Hunter, we'd like to wish you and your family a healthy and relaxing spring break!

Notes from Ms. Flavin: Technology integration Specialist
To celebrate Earth Day, students at Robert Hunter will have the opportunity to connect with scientist, animal behavior expert and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall via a Skype Live Session. Dr. Goodall is considered to be the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees. Classes around the world will also be connecting to this session! Our students will have the opportunity to ask questions, have a selfie taken with Dr. Goodall, and reflect on this experience via Flipgrid.
RH 3rd- & 4th-grade students are coding! We are piloting BrainPOP’s new creative coding feature. Creative Coding -developed in partnership with Scratch and Vidcode - consists of block and text coding projects that enhance BrainPOP educational videos and allows for deeper understanding of the topics.

Class lists
Creation of class lists is an important responsibility that teachers, guidance, and administrators take very seriously. A great deal of time and effort goes into creating classes, which are well balanced academically and socially. Many factors are considered in making placement decisions, including desirable social dynamics, numbers of students requiring academic support or enrichment, and overall number balance. Placement decisions are not made casually. Because it is not as simple as placing a student with a teacher without considering all of the dynamics of each class and the individual and collective needs of the students, the Flemington Raritan School District does not honor parental requests for specific teachers. Parents may write a letter to the principal stating specific needs that their child has which may be considered when placing the student. The letter should state facts to consider and not request a teacher. Letters must be received by May 1st.
