1850's Cultural Interactions

Thesis
During the 1850’s, the cultural interactions between the white people and black people consisted of many slaves being subservient towards their white owners because they felt like they were a lesser class or social status to their masters and wanted to please them.
Tom's Reading to Eva
In this picture, he is willingly helping Eva and make her feel more comfortable reading to him.
St. Claire wounded
A black man is helping a wounded white man even though there were other white folk to help him. The black man has a sense of needing to help his master.
Bryant Question Response
A. It seems that the slaves are pleased to help their masters, especially if it helps the white man.
B. The most surprising thing in the images was, in a lot of them, the blacks risked their lives, or were very willing to help their masters.
