Wallace Gregg Elementary School's Reopening Plan
Our school realizes that we are in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result, we have developed a plan to safely reopen our school to educate our students. We understand the importance of ensuring the safety of our faculty, staff and students. Below are some of the highlights from our reopening plan.
- School dismissal time is 2:15 p.m.
- Revised dismissal procedures will be implemented to ensure faculty, staff and student safety.
- The district has purchased School Dismissal Manager for all schools. Parents of students that ride in cars home will receive login information to check in when they arrive at school in the afternoon to pick up their child.
- Students will remain in the classroom until their bus or parent arrives.
Building Entry
- Three entrances will be used in the morning for entry to the building. Car riders will enter through the side exterior cafeteria door. Bus riders will enter through the side exterior door to the gymnasium. Faculty and staff will enter through the front door and side exterior cafeteria door.
- Tardy students will enter through the front door.
- All individuals will have their temperature taken and go through a screening/monitoring process as soon as they enter the school building.
Bus Entrance
- Students will enter through side exterior gym door.
- Students will walk in a single file line while remaining six feet apart.
- Upon entering the gymnasium, students will have their temperature taken by an infrared temperature device before proceeding directly to class.
Bus Exit
- Students will remain in their classroom until their bus number is called.
- Once a student's bus number is called, the teacher will remind students of social distancing guidelines and dismiss students to the gymnasium to their bus.
- Students will walk in a single file line six feet apart to the gymnasium.
- Once students arrive at the gym, students will be reminded of safety procedures by the adult on duty.
- Students will be dismissed to their bus.
Cafeteria
- Following CDC guidelines, our cafeteria can accommodate 28 people.
- Hand sanitizing stations are located in the cafeteria, classroom and throughout the building.
- Students will not share utensils.
- Meals will be individually packaged.
- Students will eat breakfast in the classroom.
- Each class will have assigned location for lunch by the week. Classes will alternate eating lunch in the classroom, at the picnic tables, and in the cafeteria.
- Social distancing guidelines will be implemented during breakfast and lunch time.
- Tables will be disinfected between each class.
Classroom
- Students will have assigned seats.
- Faculty, staff and students will maintain a six feet distance for most of the instructional day.
- During small group instruction time, faculty and staff will use a plexi-glass/plastic divider or wear face shield and a mask.
- Students' materials will be individually packaged. Students will not share materials.
- Masks will be worn by teachers and students.
- Frequent breaks will be scheduled for hand sanitizing and hand washing.
Hallways
- Hallways will be disinfected several times throughout the day using the Clorox Disinfecting Machine and/or disinfecting products.
- All traffic in the hallway moves in one direction. (To the right)
- Classes/individuals will not cross in the hallways.
- Only one class is allowed in the hallway at a time.
- Individuals will follow the six feet social distancing markings when walking in the hallways.
- All individuals will wear masks in the hallway.
- Hand sanitizing stations are set up in the hallway to allow for frequent hand sanitizing.
Media Center
- Hand sanitizing station will be set up in the media center.
- Faculty, staff and students will wear gloves when handling materials in the media center.
- Returned books will be placed in a basket for 72 hours before handling.
- The media center will be disinfected between classes.
- Social distancing guidelines will be followed in the media center.
Related Arts
- All related arts classrooms will be disinfected between classes.
- Students will have their own supplies and materials.
- Faculty, staff, and students will wash and sanitize their hands regularly.
- Faculty, staff, and students will wear masks at all times.
- During small group instruction time, faculty and staff will use a plexi-glass/plastic divider or wear face shield and a mask.
Recess
- Only one class will be in each playground area at a time.
- Students will play games designated by the teacher.
- Social distancing guidelines will be followed.
- Faculty, staff, and students will wear masks at all times.
- Equipment will be disinfected after use.
Student Restrooms
- Some classrooms have restrooms. Students in classrooms with restrooms will use the restrooms in their classrooms.
- Other students will use the common restrooms. Classes will have assigned restroom times. Only two students will be allowed in the common area restroom at a time.
- Students will be encouraged to wash their hands for twenty seconds.
- Students will use hand sanitizer before entering and when exiting the restroom.
Tardy Students
- School dismissal manager app will be used by parents to sign tardy students into school. If parents do not have the app, parents will ring the doorbell at the school and answer the necessary questions through the doorbell system.
- The student's temperature will be taken at the door before the student is admitted to school.
- Parents/guardians will not be allowed to enter the building to sign tardy students in to school.
Visitors
- Visitors are not allowed in the building.
- If an emergency situation arises, the visitor must complete the visitor screening process including a temperature check before being admitted in to the school.
- The visitor must wear a mask at all times while in the building.
- If a parent needs to drop off an item to a student, the parent should leave the item in the basket outside with the child's name on the item. Then, the parent will ring the door bell to inform the front office staff about the item that was dropped off for the student.
In addition to the above procedures, the district has purchased a UV Angel Air System to continuously treat the air.
