Summer Read Aloud Ideas
The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli This book being read with read aloud comments by a child is adorable! Listen here. Then enjoy a big slice of juicy watermelon and record it in your summer drawing/writing journal. | Exploring Summer by Terri DeGezelle Sizzle! Put on some shorts and try to stay cool in the hot summer season. Watch fruit ripen and baby animals grow up. See how summer brings changes for weather, people, plants, and animals. Head to the farmer's market and see what you can identify from the book. | One Hot Summer Day by Nina Crews No kid can resist a hot summer day filled with delights such as drawing chalk pictures on the pavement and playing on a swing...especially if the day is capped off with two grape popsicles plus a cooling rainstorm. You may want to do your own chalk drawing and then enjoy that popsicle! |

- Picnic in the Park: Southeast Texas has many wonderful parks, so try a few!
- Beach Day: Head down to McFaddin Beach and look for shells and sea glass or ride the ferry to Galveston.
