Message from the Principal
It is hard to believe that we have now completed the first twenty days of the school year for all students preschool through second grade here at Westbrook. Students have adjusted very well to all of our new routines and procedures across the building. Classrooms are continuing to build strong classroom communities focused on belonging and connecting with one another.
We started the week off with our picture day. Thank you to all of our PTA parent volunteers for helping to make sure all students were ready for their school picture. Thank you to all our families and community members that joined us at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Monday afternoon at Westbrook.
On Tuesday here at Westbrook we practiced our fire, severe weather and lockdown with options drills. Please know that our number one priority will always be student safety. Teachers were given time with their classes to prepare and answer any questions prior to the start of each drill. This was the first time practicing these drills in our new spaces and with our new addition. Our fire drill went extremely well as all students and staff were able to exit the building in just two minutes! For our severe weather drill we transitioned the entire building into our new storm shelter(the multipurpose room on our new addition) as this is the safest part of the building during severe weather!
We were also able to use the grassy area for the first time in our brand new first and second grade playground. One of our recess associates was able to capture the photo below of our students utilizing this space!
Next week our second grade students will enjoy our first field trip of the year to the Kent Fuller Air Station Prairie which many students are excited about!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick
Volunteers Needed at Westbrook
Ms. Freer, Westbrook Literacy Coach, could use some help sorting phonics materials for the first and second grade teachers. Just sign-in at the front office and head down to the kindergarten hallway (Reading Room) and she will tell you everything you need to know.
Thank you in advance for your help!
