We Celebrate Mary during the month of May
The month of May offers us much to celebrate. We honor Mary in special ways, often through May Crowning festivities in recognition of her role as Queen of All Saints. We’ll witness the canonizations of two of the children Our Lady of Fatima appeared to: Blessed Jacinta Marto and Blessed Francisco Marto.
Additionally, at Madonna School the grade 4's will lead us through the Living Rosary on May 18th beginning at 130 in the gym. We hope that you can join us for this special time.

Gospel Reading
John 10:1-10
Jesus is the gate for his sheep.
Family Connection
Even though we have less experience with sheep and shepherds today in our society, we can still identify strongly with the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd and as the gate for the sheep. Psalm 23 remains a popular and favorite psalm for prayer. In the image of the Good Shepherd, we know ourselves to be protected and cared for by a loving God.
As your family gathers, ask what each person knows about sheep and shepherds. Recall that shepherds and sheep have a close relationship. Sheep will only follow their own shepherd; they recognize his voice and will not follow a stranger. The shepherd’s job is to protect his sheep. In some ways, the relationship between the shepherd and his sheep is like that of a parent and child. Read together this Sunday’s Gospel, John 10:1-10. Talk about how Jesus tells us that he is the gate for the sheep. The sheep enter the protection of the sheepfold through the gate. In Jesus we find protection and abundant life. Conclude by thanking Jesus for being our Good Shepherd and by praying today’s psalm, Psalm 23.
Staffing Changes for 2017-2018 at Madonna Catholic
On Monday, I was informed that I would be leaving Madonna and moved as Principal to lead Our Lady of the Angels School in Fort Saskatchewan through a transition next year as they transition from a 5-8 school into a K-4 primary learning centre.
The news is bittersweet. EICS leadership is pleased with what has transpired over the past years at Madonna as we moved from a K-9 into our present K-4 model. With the staff and families at the school we successfully transitioned our little school into one of the brightest lights in the division. I have been asked to do the same at OLA in Fort Saskatchewan.
Mrs. Karen Antoniuk, the current principal at St Patrick School in Camrose, will join the Madonna family as Principal in August 2017. Karen was the Madonna Assistant Principal before the transition from K-9. Karen brings with her great understanding, knowledge and enthusiasm for our Mission here at Madonna. Rest assured your children and the staff are in great hands. Much will be accomplished under her leadership.
Karen is planning to attend the School Council meeting May 16th at 6:30pm here in the school library. It will be a great opportunity for you to meet her.
Although I do not leave the fold until June 30, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the children, great families and staff whom I love and cherish so much. I will take with me many memories, and will miss you deeply.
Love and Blessings

Creating Confident Printers
A week of fun and interactive camp for children in Kindergarten and grades 1 - 3 who find printing or other fine motor activities challenging. The camp will be run by experienced pediatric occupational therapists. A multi-sensory approach will be used along with co-operative games and crafts to practice the skills needed for hand functioning. This camp is designed for children who may be experiencing mild to moderate delays in fine motor development or who would benefit from extra practice. The camp places an emphasis on grasp development, formation of lower case letters, legible printing, copying shapes and letters, using school tools (pencils, scissors, glue), in hand manipulation skills, eye hand coordination and strength. This includes a summary report identifying individual children's strengths, areas of need, and suggestions for further skill development will be provided. This camp will use a multi-sensory approach combining fine and gross motor movement to enhance learning. Parents are encouraged to attend the first of the four sessions in order to help their child feel more at ease in the group and to learn how to support their child with printing practice at home.
