School-Based Prevention Programs
School-based prevention programs are available to provide comprehensive programming to your communities. This year we are focusing on three specific topics: alcohol, marijuana, and vape/e-cigarettes. Our community approach can include faculty professional development, student assemblies, parent/community presentations, information dissemination, grade level prevention education and targeted groups for policy violators.
Prevention Presentations
These education opportunities can be in the form of professional trainings, school faculty in-service trainings, community wellness presentations, small business lunch and learns, guest lectures for students and assemblies. Presentations can be provided in-person, virtually or
prerecorded.
Prevention Education Groups
We are offering the following FREE school-based groups:
CATCH My Breath - CATCH My Breath is a best-practices youth E-cigarette prevention program developed by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. The program provides up-to-date information to teachers, parents, and health professionals to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about the use of E-cigarettes. CATCH My Breath utilizes a peer-led teaching approach and meets National and State Health Education Standards.
Building Resilient Communities: Prevention, Empowerment and Emotional Intelligence
Session 1: Emotional Intelligence and Resilience Building
Session 2: Prevention through Connection- Open Dialogue and Help Seeking
Session 3: Substance Misuse Prevention and Community Norms
By combining these three training sessions you create a prevention education series that builds a safer, more supportive school and community environment.
Youth Diversion Programs for Policy Violators
We are offering the following FREE school-based intervention groups: Teen Intervene (substance use) and INDEPTH (vaping/e-cigarettes) for students who have received policy violations. These programs are free of charge to schools in Bucks County. Our programs can be provided in small groups in person or virtually.
Teen Intervene provides an easily administered, low-cost SBIRT program that helps teens self-identify a substance use disorder, provides a brief plan for intervention, and guides the referral to treatment. As a comprehensive, evidence-based program, Teen Intervene, can be administered in a variety of settings, making it an effective tool.
The American Lung Association's Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health (INDEPTH) is an alternative for students who face suspension for violation of school tobacco, vaping, or nicotine use policies. Students participate in a series of interactive educational sessions administered by an adult facilitator in either a one-on-one or group format in a school or community-based setting.
