Their works of art do not portray any humans or animal features. They believed this would corrupt people. Since they avoided things they that they created geometric designs, known as arabesque.

A very distinctive feature of Islamic art was calligraphy. This was a beautifully styled writing. Ever since the Quran was written down, the art of writing has played an important part in Islamic tradition. This form of writing appears on walls and many household objects.

The most common architecture is mosques. This is important to the Islamic society because they are places to gather and pray.
