Assuring learning excellence and readiness for a changing world.
Welcome to 2nd Semester!
With 1st semester in the books, now we turn to 2nd semester and registration for next school year. Counselors will be in classrooms supporting students with course registration for the 2019-20 school year through next week. With the registration window closing February 15th, now is a good time to be talking with your student about the path they are interested in after high school and discuss course offerings that would help support that path. Here is our Registration Guide which is loaded with valuable information about required courses, elective courses and planning guides designed to help families make informed decisions in their registration choices.
If you have any questions about registration, please attend our registration meeting at 5:00pm on February 11th, or contact your student's counselor.
Conference Night
February 11 is our Conference Night, or as we like to call it, Scarlet Showcase! We hope that you will plan to join us. This is a great evening to meet your student's 2nd semester teachers, and meet with teachers who teach courses your student may be interested in registering for next year.
As part of this evening, our counselors will be sharing registration/course planning meetings for families with students in grades 9-11 in the auditorium at 5:00pm. We hope you will join us for this important meeting to help support your student in making informed decisions when registering for classes for the 2019-20 school year.
Advanced Placement teachers will also be having informational meetings in the cafeteria for parents and students at 4:30 and again at 6:40. If your student is planning to register for an AP class, or is wondering if an AP class is right for them, you will want to attend this meeting.
We hope you will join us in these meetings!
Snow Week
The week of February 11 - 15 is Snow Week at West HS. We will have a pepfest on Wednesday, February 6th to announce the dress up days and the King candidates. On Friday, February 15, we will have shortened classes in the morning and schoolwide activities in the afternoon, including the Snow King Coronation. The Snow Dance is after the basketball game that evening.
Thank you to our Student Council for organizing this Scarlet event!
Shining Scarlets
Each quarter, teachers nominate students for a Shining Scarlet award. Shining Scarlets are students who have gone above and beyond in the classroom to demonstrate one or more of the following attributes: Academic Achievement and Improvement, Effort, Initiative, Service, and Creativity.
The nominated students are honored at a breakfast showcasing their contributions in making West High School its BEST. When you are in the building for conferences, please check out our Shining Scarlet students whose pictures are in the display case near the cafeteria.
Hall of Fame
Do you know Scarlet alumni or retired Scarlet teachers who should be in our Hall of Fame? If so, please submit this Nomination Form.
The deadline for nominations is March 31. Hall of Fame inductees are honored at the Hall of Fame Banquet at the Kato Ballroom during Homecoming week.
